DAMN! That looks good in color!

A little while ago I came across this awesome coloring job for this Sal Buscema HULK vs THOR line art
http://www.deviantart.com/art/Hulk-Vs-Thor-By-Sal-Buscema-327576237 So of course I left my compliments and gave the artist a heads up about the recent commission piece that Sal Buscema did earlier this year (my April 4th posting) and suggested it would make for a great coloring job project. As you can see our friend here (who's from Portugal) turned out another fantastic piece so let's here it for this labor of love as someone who has done a lot of coloring work this was a pretty time consuming effort.

Here's something cool I found that looked like it might have been intended as some sort of cover concept. Unfortunately I don't know who the artist is but seeing this makes me really wish there had been a Sabra mini-series or at least some sort of one shot special. I dunno maybe one of these days I'll do something with this when I have some time. Sabra was created by Bill Mantlo, Sal Buscema and Belinda Glass.

X-MEN Days of Future Past: Just wanted to share with you all that I saw the movie last night. I thought it was pretty good and arguably the best film of a franchise that never quite reached a level that could be described as great. Yeah there were some logic gaps, some discontinuities and even a running time that was a bit too long. But all that aside it was still a well thought out story line complimented with some fantastic acting and plenty of homages to 60s / 70s American pop culture. In a lot of ways Quicksilver is the sleeper high light of the movie I wish we could have seen more of him then we did.

Other cool stuff from my Memorial Day weekend included some temporary exhibits at The Oakland Museum of California that I checked out. The first one was on the history of the San Diego/International Comic Con (since 1970!) in which I learned that the Comic Con has become the biggest event The San Diego Convention Center holds every year and as you may have guessed it generates far more revenue for the local economy then any other annual event in the San Diego area.

Also at the Oakland Museum was the Art and Giant Robot exhibit which featured among other things this awesome display of the classic giant size Shogun Warriors. It's really cool to see how over the years all this one time obscure comic book/sci-fi nerd stuff become so mainstream.

  1. Man do I know what you mean by the coloring process! Now I just have the basic painter that comes with the computer! I decided to color a photo I had drawn and posted on deviantart.

I ended up having to redraw the lines and stay within them otherwise I would white even them out! It's the Superman action comic cover with The Joker close-up big grin in a Superman costume. Talk about painstaking Woey! So Bravo my friend Bra-vo! And as for X-Men, your review is dead on! Did you stay through all the credits? The bastards made us wait for the sneak peek to the next villain right past the last scrolling letter!

    1. yeah that irritated me too that you had to wait so long to get that preview. especially since it was really brief they could have had it right after the main credits.

  4. Wonderful color job on that amazing Sal work. So we got our second view of quicksilver. Much better then the first my son could not stop talking about him. Pretty good xmen movie I started losing intrest with the old ones. Loved how it was mostly first class settings. Best part of it for me was Magneto.loved how they kept his character like how he was in first class. He made that first movie and im glad he was the sane here. Only thing that was a miss the jfk was a...hun? line.and some of the future parts. Solid though for what it was.

  6. I guess everything is already said about the coloring job. Quicksilver will be in the next Avengers movie too. It will be fun to compare both renditions.

Gary Martin Jr. "a Rom curator" is probably more deserving of that title but thanks anyways. a lot of the archival Rom related tidbits (flash back cameos, footnotes, Easter eggs, mentions in other media, etc.) i post on this blog comes from him. i have something else from Gary he found in some back issues of Starlog Magazine but i'm waiting fr other things to come my way before i post it.

when it comes to Shogun Warriors collectibles the stuff here blows what i found in Oakland away http://calvinscanadiancaveofcool.blogspot.com/search?q=shogun+warriors

  10. You and your work are certainly deserving of a title Dave but I could understand if you wouldn't want to be labeled; it seems to me you're 'about' more than 'this', if you catch my drift. The reason I prefer "A" before my "ROM Curator" handle is because I believe I'm not alone in my occupation (though I hope there aren't many others SO obsessed--it's downright unhealthy over here). I once thought briefly about similar monikers for some of the regulars, and for you Dave I was thinking A ROM Champion...Zealot, Ruminator, Conscience? For PTOR I thought ROM Sorcerer or Wizard, and Lee's always been the ROM Evangelist (he or someone else proclaimed that title, and it's solid).
