A special thanks to Bruce who runs the Los admiradores de Bill Mantlo site (see first link in blog role) and to the Evil King Microcranios. EKM who loves all things robots also has some love for the greatest of the spaceknights as you will see here in his latest blog posting: http://pleasesavemerobots.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-robotastic-palmconocalypse.html I found this nice little Marvel Hype Box tid bit in ROM #57 that I thought you might enjoy.
I'm going to leave the excerpts of my favorite parts of the Q n A article with Mantlo here as you see below. The Bill Mantlo interview aside this blog in general is pretty cool. It features lots of great comic book and TV/movie sci-fi retro stuff from the 80. Guaranteed to bring back some fond memories.
Just a quick heads up! I've been spending part of my day roaming through the blog I found this article at to see what else I could find and my patience and persistence finally paid off! I'll post what I found in the next day or two.
Great find indeed!

thanks for your comment, the first commentator just emailed me with these directions: "left click on the image, then right click and choose 'see image' and then you can make it big with a left click again".
Deletei have Windows XP so in my case the option was "view image" after you right click. it worked out just fine so now i know a new trick i can't believe i'm just learning about this now!
I was going to say, "oh sure, the day after my ebay search for this 'zine FINALLY got a valid hit, you find it online." But then I realized I shouldn't complain. You could have posted it AFTER I bid on it. Oh, and if anyone does want to bid on it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Worlds-Collide-no-4-rare-fanzine-1982-ROM-Cerebus-Daredevil-VIZ-Steve-Ditko-Nova-/181016234876
ReplyDeleteJust when I thought I knew the man, this interview with Bill blew my mind. Totally unexpected stuff! You are a true master detective in finding this obscure stuff and I love it. I am definitely going to get those Transformers books, but the Jack of Hearts mini 1-4 just arrived and I'm eager to read it tomorrow! Thanks again for great stuff!
ReplyDeletethanks Rick, i'm glad you mentioned the Transformers cause i got more great Rom and Bill Mantlo stuff comin up tomorrow!
DeleteWow Dave coming into this a bit late but that was an awesome inside look into Bill's world Loved it!! Did you get that Jack of Hearts mini series and if so what did you think? I must say I only saw him originally in team ups. I found his power interesting!
ReplyDeletethe first issue was the best one because it has S.H.E.I.L.D, Nick Fury and Jack's love interest Marcy Kane. it also delves into his depression over his condition which gives him his powers. the next issue wasn't bad either but not as good. the next two issues takes the story line on another planet which it turns out is where Marcy Kane is from and as well as Jack's mother. that second half of the 4 issue mini wasn't that interesting to be honest but the conclusion wasn't bad.
Deletein general i think i like the Jack of Hearts and Cloak N Dagger better as supporting characters in a story line instead of being the focus of a story. Jack's appearance in ROM, Marvel Team #134 (Oct.7 posting)as well as Cloak & Dagger's appearances in the 80s Spectacular Spiderman series are good examples of that.
