NOVA 619 vs the Dire Wraiths concept fan art
I finally had a complete chill day this past Sunday and I got one of my back burner fan art projects done. A couple months ago this British guy contacted me on deviant art about getting some input about this story line he and some friends had written having to do with this confrontation Nova has with the dire wraiths. As I understand it this is supposed to be some manner of online comic with something of a Halloween theme. Needless to say I liked their script and it inspired me to come up with some art work. At this time I don't want to give too much away about it but for now I can tell you this much, the dire wraiths are masters at deception which can be a formidable weapon that even raw power can't always over come as The Torpedo* found out the hard way. For this battle Richard Rider will need much more then his Nova Prime powers. Sometimes it's your will and even your imagination that makes the difference between life and death, in particular your brain getting sucked out of your skull kinda death.
For those of you who would like a comprehensive review of Nova's origins check out this cool video and yes they made sure to include ROM #24.
* Special note: The Torpedo and Nova were both co-created by Marv Wolfman
Sept. 23 Update: I just got confirmation today that the Marvel Age Magazine #7 "Ron" misprint has nothing to do with this custom doll for anyone who's interested in knowing.
You did an excellent job on Nova beating up the Wraiths, and I love the shadow of ROM in the background. Kind of reminds me how often Marvel mentions the wraiths without acknowledging Earth's greatest champion against them. Seriously, that blue on Nova is perfect.
Really liking the art. I wish more ROM and Nova stuff had happened. If you are talking about Nova 619 that stuff is really cool. I remember them posting about the halloween issue on a Nova facebook page asking for recommendations and I had actually recommended the Dire Wraiths, so it's cool to see that idea being talked about.
Very cool my friend from the Wraith being taken out by Nova to the over all look of the piece to the look with Rom! Also digging the Nova info vid! I never got into the story of Nova so this vid is right on time thanks brother!!
well I think you'll also like the plot line that fan art is based on but unfortunately the guys who wrote it won't reveal it till sometime next month. glad you enjoyed that video I also learned some new stuff about Nova in it and I felt it would compliment this posting.
That pin up is nice!! I miss so much about older comics - the Kirby-ish way space was drawn, even the panicked crowd in the background all have poses like 'How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way' shows you - these days you're lucky if they draw any background at all!
mmmmmm . . . . maybe I should create a variant version of this fan art with some added dialogue? Ron Rom, that's almost right up there with John Jones. by the way speaking of names I went to this comic shop today I've only been too once before earlier this year with my ROM t-shirt. the two guys guys there got really excited about it and even took a picture. one of em showed me a ROM mighty mugg that he had stashed in the back room i mean i didn't ask about it or anything but it was cool that he wanted to show me. i can say that at least the packaging was really nice. one other funny thing toady while i was there they had this campaign sign out side of their building for some local city politician running for a seat on the city council or something like that his name was Rick Jones.
ok here we go the comic shop i went to is called Chris's Comics and it's in Fremont so it's no surprise i would happen to run across a Rick Jone's campaign sign http://www.jonesforfremont.com/
HOLY CRAP!!! Marvel sidekick WHORE Rick Jones is running for City Council!?! HE GETS MY VOTE INSTANTLY. ...even though I am nowhere near that city. Cast a vote for me, eh buddy? THAT would be a great side story in the MU- by the way... Rick Jones becomes Mayor. Now all his old super-hero buddies suddenly need favors...
DO IT! Mild-mannered Ron Rom is a simple delivery-boy by day... and SPACEKNIGHT by... er, night!
Yes- even I will admit- it has nice packaging... for whatever that's work- I rip open my toys!!!
Yes- much like "Bruce Timm" before you in his Nova shirt- your ROM shirt will get you tons of photo-ops...
