Ok I'm just kidding I had to do something to get you all to look. Please don't let this movie suck!
So as you can see here we've got a couple pages from Toyfare #142 (June 2009) that had a feature article about ROM spanning from the conception of the toy to the comic book series. What a great title, All Roads Lead to ROM. I just love clever word play! Unfortunately outside of the title there's nothing new under the sun with the article it's self. It's a good read for someone who has some familiarity with the character but for any full blown fan there's nothing in it you haven't seen or read before.
Just on general principle it's cool to find out about ROM's enduring legacy where ever and how ever it exists. But in just a few days I promise to have something way cool posted that I'm sure most of you haven't seen before and will love. Including this Turbo sketch completed and in color.
With the way Marvel keeps churning out movies you would think that the whole Rom storyline (which seems tailor made for a MOVIE) would get the executives at both Marvel & Hasbro to work something out that potentially could generate MILLIONS for them BOTH. I think that the CGI for the Silver Surfer was pretty good and would work perfect for a CGI Rom! Get with it MARVEL!
ReplyDeleteNow for the real question....WHO would you want to be the VOICE of ROM? I thought Fishburne did a really GOOD Silver Surfer and that is kind of the impression I have of Rom's voice. Deep and solemn but with a distinct nobility.
I Like that train of thought as well I can't think of a name now but I'll think of someone myself. Nice mix up there David adding the Rom pic in with the other here hero's. And the sketch Nice!
ReplyDeleteHow about Timothy Dalton someone along those lines as the voice or even Keith David. He was the guy who played the Ringleader in The Cape or did the voice for Goliath on the Animated Gargoyle series!
ReplyDeletethe voice thing is a great question but i'm drawing a blank at the moment. but if something comes to me i'll be back.
ReplyDeletePossible Voice Choices: (No particular order of preference)
ReplyDeleteLawrence Fishburne
Sean Connery
Viggo Mortensen
Patrick Stewart
Hugo Weaving
Patrick Warburton (iffy here)
*Note* I automatically dismiss the idea of James Earl Jones because I think virtually EVERYONE would only think of Darth Vader.
ok i'm gonna go with Johnathan Frakes (Riker from Star Trek The Next Generation)or Bruce Greenwood who does the voice of Batman from DC's Young Justice (great cartoon!). Greenwood has been in a ton of movies over the years but i believe his most recent gig was as Captain Pike from the ill conceived 2010 Star Trek movie.
DeleteI personally would like a voice that is a bit deeper and 'richer' in quality than Frakes, not that he would be BAD, I just don't think he has the right tone. As for Greenwood, I haven't heard him on the cartoon but his voice in A-Trek seemed just average. To me Rom's voice should have that deep baritone tremble because he was such a solemn and deep character.
Deleteok here's my last voice actor pitch for ROM, Peter Weller (Robocop I & II) nuff said. but don't discount Bruce Greenwood here's a little something from him on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaHIIcVUO2E&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL9BDD48F1451836A1
DeleteNice post mate, looking forward to seeing the Turbo sketch coloured. You always go a different way to what I'm expecting when you get the colours going.
ReplyDeleteThat All Roads Lead To Rom art is brilliant too!
