Infinity #1, Bill Mantlo, Rom & Me, New fan art, Nuff said . . .

Well folks as you can see here Infinity #1 does have your spaceknights and Galador. Seven pages worth to be specific although rather you are happy or not with what happens in those seven pages is another matter. But since I know almost all of you will not have had a chance to pick this up until later today or this weekend I'll refrain from posting any more clip art or talking any more about what happens especially since I probably won't get a chance to give this double sized issue a thorough read until tomorrow or Friday. At that point I may post again with my thoughts on it and so on but we'll see.

Here's something new I recently found from Dann Phillips. I like the unique nature of the scene my first thought that it's some kind of space vessel that's been talking over by Dire Wraiths that maybe was able to send a distress signal before the Wraiths got to em. Or maybe it's a Wraith warship that ROM is boarding right after he got done giving it a beating in battle. Dire Wraiths can with stand the vacuum of space as far as I know but hey, I'm just nit picking now.
Also, here's some other stuff worth looking at. It's a homage to X-Factor #1 that features a number of characters from several publishers including two from Marvel with one happening to be one silver spaceknight: http://dashmartin.deviantart.com/art/Multiverse-II-161977028

Moving right along I wanted to leave a message for Ceoria from the ROM and Me web site. So by now many of us know about your bad experience from before. But if the title of this blog is any indication that sort of bullshit won't happen here. This blog site was created to be a community of Rom fans as well as others who like comics and sci-fi to share news, art and ideas. So if you're out there I'm extending an invitation to join us here it's all good, the past is the past.

Here's a nice photo of Bill Mantlo from last weekend with his sister in law in which she was able to get him outside of his hospital room which sadly doesn't happen very often.

  1. Dann has a nice piece here. It invokes story; dire wraiths lurking in the shadows, the danger is high, will our hero survive the attack? Nice work Mr.Phillips.

    1. I agree Tiger, I love just a pinup, but this one was unique. He didn't just put ROM in a vacuum. Good background. Strong work.
Good news about Bill, too. :) Smiles all around.

  3. just a heads up folks it's still early in the morning over here and my LCS hasn't opened up yet but the following came from an Infinity#1 review . . .
"Visually, this comic is most striking in the seven pages on Galador, featuring Spaceknights, Builders and Captain Universe. Washed in glowing reds and soft amber with stunning glints and gleams of most of the rest of the spectrum thanks to the coloring of Justin Ponsor, this scene is vibrant and alarming, filled with critical decisions and pure raw power. It may not be the most critical moment of the series, but it is definitely the most devastatingly gorgeous scene of "Infinity" #1 with its broad range of activity and emotion."

  4. I actually got to see the issue yesterday by accident, store owner had them laying out waiting to inventory them and I browsed it. While I'm not happy with the events, it was good to see the homage to The Original Posse, and interestingly it is noted that these new spaceknights are supposed to be as powerful as 'an entire cavalry' which would make them uber-bad-dudes. It kind of had more of the Original Series feel to them unlike the AngstKnights or the WimpKnights of the Annihilators series. I'm really hoping this series brings about some sort of "reset" again.

  5. Captain Universe as well? Man Marvel really are hitting the 80's hard - that's awesome. I like the Fan Art too, I like that ROM is drawn a bit more vulnerable in body language than he usually is... It looks like a scene out of Aliens the movie...

  9. Ok the Spaceknights look AWESOME in that panel. I'm so glad that they didn't crap all over the original designs, but just sort of upgraded them for today's readers. I know I've said this before but I hope they're not all about to be annihilated. It's Marvel so,..you know. But I must say so far so good!

  10. I still maintain that Starshine's head looks fucking retarded.
And this still seems like a pale attempt to make old-school comic readers give a shit about the shit that's going on in comics now- which suck. Seriously- this is actually worse than what DC is doing- because at least DC is like: WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK! Marvel is trying to pretend they do... even though they don't give a fuck either......

  11. Hey dudes,
So I was walking through the mission in S.F. and I noticed a painting that looked very familiar but I couldn't quite place where I had seen it before. It was a religious painting of Jesus holding up some dude that couldn't stand because he was tormented or something. Ceoria's drawing is actually very similar! Only instead of Jesus we've got ROM! I don't know,..I thought it was cool.

  12. I was very disappointed in the treatment given to the Spaceknights and Galador's humble citzenry, despite the beautiful artwork. I'll wait to see what you post tonight, David, before I make further comments.

    1. i always liked Gloriole's armor it was one of the more unique spaceknight designs and the colors worked well on it too. aside from Mentus he was the only one i can remember that had two different colors. i need to do some fan art with him one of these days. but come back here tomorrow morning Joseph i'll have something else for you guys.

  14. HEY guys.

I wanted to post a comment that I DID in fact try to make contact with Ceoria (ROM) Johnson (although it took me two weeks to get around to it - because I suck.

However, I saw that Ceoria DID in fact reply to your previous post (which showcased her ROM sculpture).
I don't know if you read it, but she says she's lurked here for 2 years!

    So... mission accomplished!

YOURS is TRULY the BLOG for ROM FANS who aren't dicks!

    ;-)
