Thank you all for your support, here's some new fan art and an eye test

Left click to enlarge
Here's something new from Dann Phillips who's been on something of a roll with Rom fan art as of late. If there's one thing I would change with this one is for Rom to be banishing jonathan hickman to Limbo instead of that wraith. I also just wanted to say thank you to every body who has been contributing to this blog in the past couple of months as far as all the internet traffic and commentary for the postings lately.
Rom fans have had their highs and lows over the years and in many ways hickman delivered the worst of the lows recently but it's been really cool to hear from so many people about it. As such there's been an unprecedented amount of exchange of information, ideas and opinions here lately it's absolutely everything I had hoped it would be when I started this blog.

Art by Scott Reed
Ok here's you eye test. And by "eye test" this little exercise has more to do with your ability to scrutinize detail then it does to determine if you have 20/20 vision. Now if this commission piece looks familiar to you it's because it's been around for a while now but what you're looking at right here has been altered a bit. Over all I like the original but it always had this one thing about it that drove me nuts so I finally decided to "fix" it. See if you can spot what's different from the originalhttp://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=729976&GSub=81477

One last thing, I just found page#1 for that Rom spaceknight first issue reproduction project for Bill Mantlo:
So that makes a total of 4 pages that I've found from this project I'll keep posting them as I find them.

It should be noted that this isn't the first time the first page of issue #1 was reproduced this version was done early last year:  http://johndouglasart.blogspot.com/2012/03/rom-spaceknight-1-page-recreation.html

  1. Did you fix ROM's eyes? Only thing I noticed...
Man, that first piece has A LOT going on in it. Pretty fucking sweet. "...banishing Hickman" HA! Right?
I want Marvel and DC to swap all their writers... even if only for a month or two... I wonder what would happen. Think of what COULD happen!
......I mean, it would probably still suck but at least I'd be curious.

    1. well your guess is partly right but let's see who else takes a stab at it before i say anymore. i'm beat i'm hitting the sack we'll pick this up tomorrow. you should also check out the links at the bottom of the posting and see how different artists out there re-envisioned page 1 of Rom spaceknight #1.

  2. Looks like you've altered the perspective on the top of his head just a smidge so he's not so much a conehead. Rather than the web link you gave, I went to my collection of fanart from the internet to compare, and while there noticed I have 8 pages of Rob Harrington's tribute ROM #1 project, hmmm. ;-) {nudge} (Looking forward to buying the finished comic.) Also decided that Dann's latest, at the top of this post, has officially tied for my #1 favorite piece of fan & pro ROM appreciation artwork. My digital collection numbers 704 images, and my other #1 favorite is ~P~'s ROM vs. all his enemies. I can't decide between the two for a true #1, though they each have a small portion or factor about them that if done differently would've edged them to the top, so I can see why you might want to alter pictures like you do sometimes.

  3. Another amazing work by Dann Phillips. Love the action ROM sending to limbo ,Starshine blasting a hole into a hound while having a wraith yoked up at the same time. This Starshine must be Brandy. Love the blackest of black ,blacker then space in the deathwing.Dann stayed true for that. The man has been on fire with ROM and thats so awesome

The new first page of the Issue 1 redone looks rad .cant wait to get this when the project is complete.so cool a different artist a page for a great cause.

On the eye test i too see slight changes to the head of rom.less spraycan tip looking and more boxed then round

  4. The ROM art is fantastic! Dude I just want you know that ROM fans such as us appreciate what you've done here. You've given us a forum where we can express our love for ROM's universe and Bill Mantlo's amazing works and express ourselves freely without having to edit(or having someone else edit) everything we say. Sincerely man, you've done a good thing here and I hope it continues and grows for many years to come. Thanks again man.

  5. you're very welcome Chris, that was the whole point of this blog. before i was seeing too much stuff out there that was getting on my nerves i felt Rom fans deserved something better redundant editorial and clip art everywhere.
to Gary and Joseph, bingo you got it guys. i dunno what was up with that more "cone head" look but it had to go now i'm over all pretty happy with Reed's commission piece.

  6. I've said it before and I'll say it again mate, you do an awesome job with this site. I'm glad it's living up to all your hopes.

That image kind of looks like to me Nova vs ROM Herald of Galactus! Now there's a thought ;)

  7. Can I ditto everything Dan said and more? I love this site. I might not know everything you guys do about ROM, but I love learning from you, and seeing everything you put here. I love the passion you have, and the earnest love everyone here has for our Spaceknights.

  8. Personally- I hate this site. It's awful, and I mean- who is this RON anyways?
And I enjoy being censored. Who doesn't?
Now- why don't you post something worthwhile here? Like an Ultimates tribute or some Deadpool fan art!

    2. NO! ...yes.
There was too much love on this page- it was making me sick. I'm a hero. A HERO OF MEN!

  9. Dan, oh the irony mate it would only be a couple of issues after Nova's appearance in ROM (#24) that he would indeed find him self Galactus's herald and in doing so damn near led Galactus to destruction.

Random, here in CA. we call it La Pasion : )

King, how about a David Mack Kabuki tribute instead?

  10. I saw his head and eyes were altered. You made his eyes look more like the comic, which are more dynamic and his head's perspective is more square like.

    1. Heh. Don't worry, I stop by semi-regularly, so I don't miss too much. It also reminds me that I really have to do some more ROM art. Now all I gotta do is find some spare time in my schedule... ;-)

  15. You always come up with something new and I really appreciate that. Hickman is a Wraith I tell you. A FEMALE one at that. Which brings up the question of what happened to all the male 'Sci-Wraiths' when the Annihilators returned Wraithworld from Limbo.
