Bill Mantlo enjoying his new gift from a fan

Here's one from an artist I've featured before on this blog. I've always really liked this one too but there was just one thing that still bothered me about it. And even though I colorized it that's not what bothered me about it. It's actually the same thing that I recently had to fix on another recent piece of fan art in which just about everything else on ROM looked alright except one goddamn thing. Here's the original http://kimoyancey.blogspot.com/search?q=rom

For those of you who saw this posting earlier you know that I was still waiting for some new stuff to update today's posting. Well I'm happy to say some of it has started to show up such as this photo from Michael Mantlo's most recent visit to his brother Bill. What you see in Bill's hand there is the custom Starshine II figure which I sent to Michael a couple of weeks ago after it got passed off to me by Chris who wanted it to be given to Bill as a gift. And speaking of Chris's custom spaceknight figures we've got another one coming up I hope to have something to post here within the next 24 hours stay tuned.

And finally, here it is! Told ya it would be worth the wait. For more images of Chris's latest custom spaceknight and other custom figure projects: http://custom777.deviantart.com/gallery/
Shit, kinda as an after thought maybe I should have made this custom it's own posting. I could have titled after my favorite Talking Heads song, "Burnin Down The House".

Nice job, both of you... you know what's great about this? Okay- you know WHAT ELSE is great about this? ROM is giant like he is supposed to be. So much fan art has him just regular sized. ROM IS HUGE!

    1. ROM's armor is listed as being exactly 7 ft in his Marvel Universe Handbook stats. when you really think about it that should probably at least have been 7 1/5 ft.

    2. Especially in the early issues- he's three heads taller than most people and twice as wide... His mitten-hands would make André The Giant's hands look like how regular people's hands look compared to André The Giant's.

    3. I must be getting used to KoT, because that sentence made sense.
When the scale of the main point of a pic is off, the whole thing gets thrown into disarray. And unless you're drawing for a Sandman book, that's not a good thing. This guy did a great job from the neck down. And no, I'm not talking about the girl.

  2. A big ROM right next to some small, but ample bits? Yep, must be a Shlomo blog:)

Love the ROM and the bits. He kind of down't look like he knows where to put his hands, though.

  5. OK I'm going to gush right now,..Dude, thank you for getting Starshine to Bill. I just saw the photo about 10 seconds ago and I shit you not I'm kinda choked up. I can't believe I'm looking at a living legend like Bill Mantlo holding a piece of my art. I've always wanted to thank him for the universe he introduced me to the universe of the imagination. I wouldn't be the artist I am today without the influence of Bill Mantlo's writing. I've said this before but,..as a kid in Brooklyn, Bill expanded my consciousness. My sincerest thanks to you all for helping me to say thank you to Bill. Thank you Bill Mantlo, you are a genius.

  8. Ah, I see. You made Rom's head below his eyes shorter, which squares it off more and taper less. (And, of course, added more flare to his eyes.) I'm more annoyed by the woman's nipple being on the side of her breast instead of the front.

    1. ah, finally somebody took a stab at fan art revision. good to hear from ya Lee you have a keen eye for detail. although i suppose the way her arm is up against the side of her boob her nipple might be kinda situated there depending on the . . pliability of her boobs.

by the way folks it looks like there's more of a delay on the next spaceknight custom but if it's who i think it will be it'll be worth the wait.

    1. Hey Zhaanman!
Whats up man?! Dude, I was proud for a minute but it all melted into just gratitude. I'm so grateful that Bill has her, and that he knows I'm grateful to him! I really can't thank the blog and shlomo enough for the opportunity, but it was all of you guys too. If you dudes hadn't commented on my customs or didn't like them, I'm sure none of this would have happened. A huge thank you to you all.

  12. I just wanted to make a quick comment on the ROM art. First of all,..awesome, second, I love the style,..almost old school tattoo or street art look to it. The colors are fantastic, they really do make the whole piece pop. My only crit would be the crotch on ROM,..why does it look like a black hole? Kinda weird,....but still an awesome piece of rad ROM art.
