Thanks to a descent amount of sleep I managed to get in the last 15 hours I had this after thought to throw this scan from Incredible HULK 288 on top of this posting. I wanted you guys to see the clip art that proceeds the stuff I posted last weekend. For those of you who did not or do not have this issue is just pure awesomeness. To bad we never got to see a confrontation between ROM and The Abomination back in the day.
Folks, I'm so friggin tired right now but this needed to be posted here asap for obvious reasons. Oh I bet Bill would love this. Here's where I found it I'm afraid I just don't have enough energy to write any more on this tonight . . .

Also, the cover art for the Rom remix project recently turned up. In many respects it's a well done illustration but some how it just doesn't capture the essence of the greatest of the spaceknights. Still, it's better then most of the crappy art that's comes from that project thus far http://www.deviantart.com/art/Rom-Spaceknight-full-colour-428424541
Fantastic. Spaceknights and Acroyears, always a natural pairing; the rest is icing upon icing. This is the 6th Micronauts/ROM mock cover in my vault's fan art file (three of which are by our host here...no wonder he's tired). ;-) Slightly (ok more than) jealous of Andrew Allen but that guy is seemingly on another level. Agree with you man on the underwhelming ROM Remix cover, but I'm still 100% behind the project as a whole.
ReplyDeleteBy the way I've updated both of the recent Bullpen postings with my near-complete findings on hunting them down. For those keeping score, ROM's mentioned in: a comic with an embossed holographic foil cover (Warlock Chronicles #1), a comic with two holograms on the cover (Spider-Man #50), four 2099 issues, three Marvel UK issues, three tv-show tie-in comics, a Deadpool, & a Guardians of the Galaxy!
ReplyDeleteholy crap, that's cool about the Rom mentions i'd be delighted to see em if you have em as clip art. damn that's some pain staking research you've done Gary.
DeleteOn no, I'm just describing the books that have the Bullpen Bulletins that mention ROM, which you know about already.
Deleteoh i see, i misunderstood what you wrote. that sort of thing happens when you're in a rush all the time. by the way i just saw your your last comment from a few days ago on the Bullpen Bulliten Sal Buscema posting.
DeleteROM looks like he pooped his pants...
ReplyDeleteyeah it's a shame if you really study the art work you can see that the guy put a lot of care into it with the color and details. and that's a tough angle to draw that scene from. this artist has skills but something just doesn't quite work here as a finished piece maybe his style just isn't suited for ROM? kinda like Gene Colan i once looked at an Iron Man issue he had done and his style just didn't quite fit. but when it comes to horror or mystic based comics his style is fantastic.
DeleteYeah- the guy has skills... but still looks like ROM is walkin' around with a full-load in his space-pants...
DeleteHell yeah- Gene Colan: Night Force!!! 14 issues was not enough!
hey K.o.T i take it you haven't had any material to make new videos for given that the dirtmall and/or the flea market aren't open at this time of year in your neck of the woods. but if you some how come along some cool comic/sci-fi geek stuff you might end up making a video of give me a head's up about a week out i may have something for you to share in your planned episode.
DeleteYeah- that's part of it... Honestly, just have not been up to it. I answered in more detail over on my blog when you asked...
DeleteBut, never say never- if I do, I will hit you up first- for sure.
Oh shit, he kinda' does! His name's SHAT now;)
ReplyDeleteNice - it always amazes me how the pro's can make a cluttered action scene not seem crowded. King's right though - ol' ROM's wearing depends in this one ;)
ReplyDeleteDamn- I always feel like SUCH a dick after dissing something from that project, though. It's for a great cause, and it's not like *I'm* participating or anything... Been so long since I've drawn anything- I doubt I even can anymore. Sorry- my brief moment of humanity is showing! -I thought I killed you with alcohol! -GET BACK IN THE CAGE!!!
ReplyDeleteDan, i hate to admit it but i was thinking something along those lines.
ReplyDeleteK.o.T, dissin the project and dissin Bill are two different things so don't worry. it's kinda like with Dikto, i'm not even dissin his early works back in the 60s. but when it came to the late 70s, the 80s and 90s where artists like Buscema, Golden and Byrne were red hot it was time for Dikto to hang it up. by the way i saw your video comment back over at your blog.
Wow that two in one cover is sick! I love how he used Spaceknights letters ( loved that series for what it was)even more cool with the orginal knights.
ReplyDeleteAhh the remix project..always so hard to say anything bad about such a good cause. The art here i could say alot about but ill just say ROM looks tiny here. He is supose to be very tall. Shlomo why did you never get on board ? I seen in comments you were intrested. you would have been great to this good cause project.
excellent question Joseph. i did inquire to the dudes who started the project about doing a page but i was told all the pages were spoken for already. i was offered an "opportunity" to do the lettering for some of the pages but i was interested in that about as interested as i would have been to do a coffee run for the people who drew those pages.
DeleteThat's a great custom cover! While I love how interconnected the Marvel Universe has where all the titles' heroes and villains inhabit the same world, I'm glad Rom kept out of the mix for most of his career. His mission to defeat the dire wraiths took precedence and team-ups with other heroes or match-ups with super bad guys took a back seat. I think that sometimes the rivalries can change how we define a character and Rom's laser-focus on his mission kept him noble and gave him a purpose unique to his title.
ReplyDeleteyes well just as Optimus Prime has his unflinching sense of morality so did Rom have his spaceknight code. i've always thought of Rom as the Optimus Prime before there was Optimus Prime.
