Fan art from a couple of mystery artists

It's been nearly a week since I last posted something that's a first for this blog in a very long time if I was running a business here I'd say it's been a slow week over here. But I do happen to have some cool fan art that Gary Martin Junior found that I've been sitting on for a while now. Unfortunately aside from the signatures I don't know who the artists are. I'm pretty sure you're all seeing that very sinister looking Dire Wraith sketch card for the first time but some of you may recognize the Rom fan art which I believe is from the first Floating World Comics Bill Mantlo benefit art auction. That clever interplay between negative and positive space certainly makes that one of the more unique and creative Rom fan art piece out there.

Update: By coincidence I happened to come across a photo gallery image from Floating World Comics that lists this piece as being done by Aaron Albert even though that's not consistent with the signature seen at the bottom of the art work

Also, speaking of those benefit auctions I just had an after thought about the fan art that was done by an artist who goes by the name Kako. I wonder if his piece was inspired by the cover art (Micheal Golden) for Rom #10? He's got the same style F-16 fighter jets in his art work as seen on the cover.

  2. Wow, that Dire Wraith is a pretty awesome rendering. The ROM is slick and very cool. Two excellent finds, in my humble opinion!

  3. Both pieces are very nice. The dire wraith looks hungry, might want to feed him some plasma rifle.

    1. truth be told right now i'd rather feed a terrorist and or a terror apologist "liberal" to that wraith. terrorists and dire wraiths have a lot in common. both like to hide in plain site with their disguises until they're ready to strike. radical leftists aren't that far off either with the way they masqueraded as humanitarians when really they are just another hate group that's every bit as self righteous as extremists on the far right.

  4. Nice pieces Dave! That bottom one carries the signature of Phil Hester if that helps too - he drew Green Arrow when Kevin Smith wrote it and other stuff. I think you've even posted another of his ROM works before - so I think he must be a fan-pro by the seems!

That top one is sweet too - giving the Wraith a hunchback adds so much menace doesn't it! Looks just like the mother in law I've never had ;)

  5. Yeah- that Dire Wraith is awesome looking! -Looks wayyy better than the one I posted today! -Stealing my thunder, how dare you, Sir! I totally should have put a hunchback on it!
That minimalistic light/shadows contrast ROM piece is fucking amazing!
And I love the hands on the one with the jets...

  6. That jets one is awesome! Sure it could be a tribute but I think it really contrast how our 'best fighter technology' is beneath ROM Spaceknight - even the harsh geometric lines vs fluid shapes of ROM really pull it out. Great find!

  7. I apologize if this has been mentioned before. I just found out from my brother that ROM made an appearance on an episode of South Park from 2007. It's called Imaginationland . I did a Google Image search and found some pictures, but I couldn't find a way to contact you to send the pics.
