Damn! Now that's what I call some good fan art!

Looks like things are picking up here again at least for the time being. I want to open up this posting by thanking Gary Martin Jr. for not giving me a heads up about this newly discovered fan art. Fortunately, I know about his secret hiding place he squirrels away all the Rom related art work he finds. But that's ok I can always go help myself to the stuff he finds that I've missed. Anyways, here's a new one by Yildiary Cinar. Talk about a solid illustration this is my kinda fan art, dynamic, slightly stylized and especially well done from a figure composition stand point.

Here we have the 3rd in a line of fan art I've seen so far when it comes to a ROM spaceknight / Green Lantern theme. Rom's head is a bit small in proportion to the rest of his body but this is otherwise a really solid illustration it's done by this guy

Ok a couple more things I want to get to here. The Vision of Comics gave me a heads up about this new novel (not graphic novel) by Dan Abnett about Rocket Raccoon & Groot that among other things featured a spaceknight by the name of Roamer. I passed that info along to our resident Rom curator Gary Martin Jr. who in turned asked me if I'd mention it on the blog. As you all know I don't care for Rocket or Groot but because I'm such a stand up guy so here I am mentioning it for Gary.
And just so you all know I also mentioned the Hasbro Rom doll to Dan Abnett on farcebook this morning in the hopes it might help get things moving along as far as what we all really want to see which is a return of ROM to the marvel universe and an end to these badly mishandled half ass continuities we've had to endure for years now.

    2. GOTG is the ill! New Marvel comics are straight up KILLIN' it! You are missing out on some JOY.

That ROM figure does suck ass though... but that has nothing to do with Marvel.
      Ha-HA!

    3. well let's see how "ill" GOTG does in it's opening weekend. as for new marvel and DC both companies have over priced books that lack the content i want to read. chiefly the rebooted Suicide Squad being so wrong on so many levels and the disservice the writers have done to the ROM continuity over the years i speak about so frequently here. Galador's destruction on the heels of giving us back our classic spaceknights was the final straw for me. so all that "JOY" you spoke of is to be had all on that side of the U.S. that you live on. but i'm at least willing to go spend my time and money on the good marvel movies. speaking of movies you heard anything about Transformers 4 yet?

    4. How well a movie does when it opens is no indicator of quality. Just look at the new TransFOURmers flick. Why people are still paying to see those awful messes of movies is beyond me...
I don't think comics are overpriced- they've always steadily increased. They're about at what they should be. And in Marvel's case- worth every penny! Sure- I'd love it if they were cheaper- but who wouldn't! And Infinity and it's ROM continuity issues are but one small sliver of a thing that has zero effect on any other books I regularly enjoy. Some comics are good, some suck. Sucky ones don't make the good ones suck too.
GoTG will be a good Marvel movie! It's comic-books personified. For someone who likes Mantlo so much- I don't get why you want to hate on it before it's even out?

    5. I've never really been into any incarnation of the GOTG but it's rocket raccoon I really don't like. a talking raccoon alien is just too over the top ridiculous for me even within the realm of comic book sci-fi. and the jacked up cover price for the RR & groot back story in the first Annhilators mini-series really pissed me off and that pretty much made me not like groot either.

  2. Yildiray is awesome - his work on Legion and Firestorm was the bomb and Dynamite from Image was great too. His own blog is full of great sketches and he's very approachable.

    1. yeah I've looked through his deviant art gallery before it's extremely impressive and he's done at least one ROM piece before although I would love to see him do something that features Rom along with some other Marvel characters like Dann Phillips often does.

  3. The top artwork is amazing. I would love that as a poster or a shirt or something. I am not much of a GL fan but that is still some solid art. And yeah, that book is really good, it's like a tour of cosmic marvel.

    1. Vis, thanks for letting Dave know about Steal The Galaxy's new Spaceknight! I had missed all publicity for it (not that I pay much attention to that kind of thing anyway unless I think it might have Legacy of ROM content) but he passed me the info you'd given him so I found the first-21-pages preview on marvel.com (which I think you meant to link to up there right Dave? http://marvel.com/news/comics/2014/6/26/22757/read_the_first_21_pages_of_rocket_raccoon_groot_steal_the_galaxy). The Spaceknight only makes his brief entrance there, but I ordered the book so I hope to have read it all by next week. Might take longer 'cause I'm thinking of reading it out loud to my kids. Marvel's first original prose novel features a positive portrayal of a Galadorian Spaceknight, that's major in my mind & heck yeah I'm excited, almost as much as for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I had already been thinking if I had free time I'd be scouring all the trailers & released footage for any unidentified armored humanoids (UAHs?? we will call them Spaceknights) in the background; now I feel a walk-on cameo is even more of a possibility. Anyone else think Star-Lord's silver mask with the glowing red circle eyes is an homage to something? Can't quite put my mitten-covered finger on it.

    2. No problem, Gary. The Spaceknights story is really one of redemption and it makes for such a great character. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.

  6. when it comes to fan art it's all about good findings here my friends. I will usually at least post a link to Rom related fan art that's worth having a look at but only the best of the best actually gets posted here.

    1. So how was the crappy CGI monkey rebootmake flick?

    2. 10 times better then the crappy CGI raccoon and Swamp Thing knock off groot GOTG flick I'm sure : )
I liked it in other words it had a tight script although prior to seeing the movie, in real life it was pretty much Dawn of The Planet of the Arabs also in S.F. with the protest that was going on. ya know how it is with those people rather it's a political cartoon, youtube video about their prophet or some terrorists like hamas getting their asses kicked by Israel they're always throwing a fit about something.

  7. Love the coloring especially in the top one. The cooler color palate is really shown in the best light. (pun intended :)
