ROM spaceknight issue #22 commemorative fan art ( I really miss the 80s! )

I finally got around to  getting done the fan art that's been foremost in my collection of ideas for the past couple months.

Number 22 (1981) was the first ROM issue I ever had and in effect it started a chain reaction of fandom with me from the early 80s to today. So it seems this commemorative fan art is a good foot note to end things here. Yeah that's right, in my never ending quest to curb my time on the internet and lead a more productive life in the real world (mainly for more sleep and exercise in my schedule) I've decided to suspend writing any more of these time consuming postings indefinitely. It's no big deal I'll still be sharing all cool ROM related things with those of you I correspond with through other means outside of this blog such as on deviant art and by email, but I still don't do farcebook.

But let me leave you with some of the cool stuff I saw last weekend while I was in Alameda for an afternoon. By the way that's the same city I ran into that guy who had the cool Nova t-shirt earlier this summer. Anyways, first up I took a photo of this cool new Star Wars window display at Toy Safari which as you can see carry's among other things vintage sci-fi and comic book based toys from the 80s.

I bet you forgot about this one : )
Only a couple retail spaces down was this new place called High Scores Arcade which is a video game arcade that features exclusively old school games from  . . . . yep you guessed it the 80s! You can get a look at the inside of the place here  http://www.highscoresarcade.com/games.html

  1. I certainly understand wanting more time to sleep, but you'll be missed greatly. Hopefully we'll see you again soon, Shlomo.
It's a good piece of artwork to suspend things with. Lots of meaning. :)

  2. Yeah I know how you feel My deviantart page is blowing up with artist's work I've yet to go through because of my hours at work on the nightshift! But I like the fact that you can freestyle your themes. I draw more from what I see which makes it hard to just through something together but you make a good inspiration my friend! Matter fact time for my nap before off to work tonight.

    1. thanks bro. and yeah i hear ya i also work nights on a regular basis and also during the day as well on a more sporadic basis. the worst thing you can do is jump on your computer when you get home late at night after work as far as getting to bed any time soon. and as far as napping when you get a chance during day time hours, priceless.

  3. I really like that fan art and that store sounds pretty awesome. I have run into stores like that before but they always seem so expensive. But I guess schmucks like me will always be there to buy the stuff haha. I was born too late to be able to enjoy the arcades of the 70's and 80's.
Sad to hear that you will be taking a hiatus. But we need to stay in contact via email for sure!

  4. Love the fan art sir. Thats a great issue to get hooked with. Nice tempest and a real arcade found. The last of a dying breed i looked for years and years for one to take me son too and 2 years found a place in miami called arcade odyssey. Wicked cool place with hundreds of old school games beszerk, tron, xmen the arcade game and the most working pinball machines on the east coast. the guy is a true collector and switchs out the games and pinball tables every few months. Everything is one token or two for driving games .they have everything they really do and i visit at least once a month worth the hour trip to go. Ill subscribe to your youtube because you off fb again. I finished that rom inspired song i mentioned doing way back

    1. i was just at that arcade this past weekend only to learn that i still suck at TRON every bit as much as i did in the 80s and that when it comes to Defender i was much better at the ATARI version then i was at the arcade game original.
well i don't really have anything going on with youtube these days. your best bet is to check my deviant art gallery from time to time i'll still be posting stuff there such as this ROM / Beta Ray Bill team up fan art i did just this past weekend http://csuhsux.deviantart.com/art/Rom-spaceknight-Beta-Ray-Bill-team-up-sketch-art-485359416
