Some new Youtube videos of ROM & Bill

I'm making this posting on the fly in order to feature some newly discovered videos. This one here probably won't tell you much of anything new but it's well produced and would make for a nice intro to the world of ROM for other people out there who don't know the series very well or at all. Also worth checking out is this Cloak & Dagger video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqS2dCaAYG4 and this short CG video of Rom's confrontation with Firefall II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTb4gddlEjQ

I just wanted to do a quick follow up to Lee's Seitz's posting a couple of weeks ago for a Rom reference made in Avengers Forever #1 in regards to Rick Jones's back ground. In that posting there was some question as to the legal legitimacy of the use of Rom's name in that narration box. But I still feel based on the Rom related stuff that came out just before 2000 (Nova #2 Vol. 2) and the stuff that appeared during and right after 2000 (Universe X #3 and the Spaceknights mini-series) that it was just before 2000 that Marvel lost the rights to the Rom name and likeness.
As for Jones his first appearance in Rom spaceknight was in issue 54 but it wouldn't be until 55 that they would team up against the Dire Wraiths in what turned out to be an ALIENS like story line. Jones was a regular character in the series until issue 72. A similar reference was also made back in Incredible Hulk #319 (1986) http://romspaceknightart.blogspot.com/2011/04/rom-spaceknight-cameo-from-hulk-319.html

This sweet Acroyer piece by Art Adams was probably the easiest coloring job I've ever done here's the original posting where I found it: http://marvel1980s.blogspot.com/2013/08/1982-acroyear-by-art-adams.html

  1. That is a good introduction video... Dude needs a better microphone, though... and those aren't originally scanned images of his favorite moments from the series or anything- looks like it's just pics of the books from a Google Image search.
I'm just saying... because if ANYONE has a right to criticize YouTube vids- it's ME! Right? Because my own are the pinnacle of perfection. Super clear HD *cough*, drunken, shaky, rambling, loud, Windows Movie Maker edited PERFECTION that EVERYONE loves and watches! ...I'm going to go kill myself now.
...Or watch The Daily Show, whichever.

I wish those ROM/Firefall videos were from a video-game. I'd play the fuck out of that- even if it ended up being a horrible as SuperMan 64.

Let me know what you think of Space Battleship Yamato.

    1. I thought those were special effects you intentionally put into your vids. I mean, it always looks a lot like an old episode of Star Trek to me. Without the stray boulder, of course. :)

    2. My only special effect is intoxication and a lack of any particular skill.
-Boulders! OF COURSE!!! I need Styrofoam boulders!!! It's so simple, how could I not have seen it before?

  2. Never been a big rick jones fan but he sure does help with a timeline of when they had to stop using rom in other pages due to the rights

    Cool firefall vid .

    1. How dare you, Sir! Rick Jones is the dutchie of the Marvel Universe! He's the Super-Heroes bicycle! He gets passed around and everyone gets to ride!!! God bless his sidekick-whore-heart of gold...

    2. With rick i was reffering to his wedding and other rom costume/toy apperances where I belived the rights were already up for marvel. I am inclined to think that avengers text just slipped through

    3. Yeah kot he always was the whore of sidekicks. Your right about how passed around he was. I didnt care for him in other books and thought his best apperances were in the hulk

    4. Outside ROM of course . Out of the other books i liked him in hulk most

  3. Nice coloring of Art Adam's piece on Acroyer that looks Fan-Tastic! An I agree the King, that would make a killer video game!

  4. Fantastic job on that Art Adams piece! Art Adams being one of the greatest comic artists of the 80's! I had no idea he even sketched Acroyer! Awesome, awesome drawing. I have to admit not knowing much about Rick Jones outside of the pages of ROM,..and I to be honest, back then I secretly wished for his demise. I never understood what was so special about this Rick Jones, it seemed to me that all he ever did was get into shit and need to be saved. I'm glad Hulk sat on him.

    3. Hey dudes,
I don't have much time right now but I just wanted to say after being reminded of some great moments that couldn't have happened without Rick Jones,..and how he represented the potential goodness of humanity. I have to say it, I was very wrong about him,..
      Thanks for the education guys.

  5. Rick Jones was one of those characters who started out a touchstone and became important through his constant involvement in the continuity of several books. I think his likability depended severely on who was writing him, and what his plotline was.
That was a good intro/ad for ROM. If someone didn't know who ROM was it would definitely pique their interest. Heck, I know I want to go out comic hunting now. Although it really doesn't take much to get me jonesing. Heh. Jonesing. That kind of fits here.
Beautiful coloring on the Adams piece. I'm going to save that one. See if it'll fit on my desktop. :) Thanks Shlomo!

    1. I am also Jonesin'... For more sweet Rick Jones action! ...and drugs, also drugs.
But the question is- who voiced him better: Mike Horton, Luke Perry, or Seth Green???

    2. Like that's even a question. Seth Green always wins.

    3. I'm partial to Luke, myself. Seth is doing this hyperactive, younger type voice in S.M.A.S.H. -Kinda annoying. You just picked 'em for ginger reasons. I'm on to you!

  6. my friends, thank you for all the wonderful comments sorry i'm late to this party. i have reason to believe that i'll have some new material within the next few days to post that will rock your world. in the mean time folks let's take a moment to reflect on Rick Jone's history in the Marvel Universe. love em or hate him he's made his mark rather as he did in the pages of ROM or the way he stood by Captain Marvel's side all the way up until his final moments. how could you have read The Death of Captain Marvel and not come out of it with out having given Rick Jones some props?

    1. Oh man....I totally agree about the Death of Captain Marvel. The scene where Rick is by Mar-vell's bedside and cries on him like a baby still gets me choked up. That book had some of the best Rick Jones dialog ever.

    3. Your posts always rock, Shlomo. :) And I agree about Rick. He's always been a pivot of the Marvel Universe.

  7. I really enjoyed the Rom commentary. And yes Rick Jones is the man....period. No Rick = No Hulk = No Avengers...and so on an so forth. :)
The Rom/Firefall video was cool. Wish it was longer. I didn't like the way Rick left the book with the Beyonder. Then again I hate the beyonder.

    1. oh and here i was about to bring up Rick's act of heroism with his Beyonder granted temporary powers in ROM #72 in order to further make the case for Rick Jones being the man. but there is this little known awesome Rick Jones moment http://romspaceknightart.blogspot.com/2012/12/maybe-coolest-rom-reference-ever.html

  8. off topic here but the more I read of my Rom run the more I get mad at Marvel/Hickman for destroying Galador. In my opinion there was still so much potential to be explored by this unique and selfless alien race. They were truly unlike any of the other Marvel Alien races. You have everything, Angels, Cyborg nights and noble people. Man it ticks me off.
