Captain Marvel guest appearence, nuff said!

Here's another great cosmic team up that would have been right up there with The Silver Surfer and Rom . . .well almost as great. The artist who I lifted this awesome Captain Marvel rendering from doesn't appear to be responding to comments left under their work so I didn't even bother to ask about using it. So the best thing I can do is to make sure this artist gets due credit is to leave a link to their deviant art page. I guarantee you'll be blown away with the work you see there especially when it comes to the Marvel Cosmic, Transformers and Masters of the Universe illustrations: http://espeng.deviantart.com/gallery/

Here's another sort of team up I would have liked to have seen back in the day when Marvel didn't suck like it does now.

Just a heads up folks, Bill Mantlo's birthday is November 9th. I'll be sending his brother Michael copies of some of the latest fan art that I've drawn. If you have anything for Bill rather it be some fan art of your own, a b-day card or even a donation (you'll make the check out to Michael) I'll be happy to include it with my package for the mail.

Speaking of B-days I'd like to extend a happy birthday weekend to one of my most regular commentators Joseph who turned___ yesterday.

After having read some of your comments earlier today and then taking a second look with fresh eyes I finally realized this is a fake. Sorry folks looks like we got bamboozled that is not an actual copy of Rom spaceknight #8 that Rahm Emanuel is holding. How could this have happened!? To me, the photoshop ninja.

    1. yeah i saw that Critters art too i thought it was cool. i saw the first one when it came out in theaters. as far as low budget sci-fi horror movies go it wasn't bad at all. thanks for the high marks on the Sabra Rom piece too i did my best to come up with the sort of old English style of writing Rom usual spoke in.

  3. YES! That would have been a perfect team up. Captain Marvel is one of my all-time favorite characters.

  4. ok..this is awesome in a creepy way. Bill's birthday is November 9th. In the early issues of Rom the dire wraiths forged birthday is November 9th....and my daughter's birthday is November 9th!

  5. Luv the Sabra / ROM team up. Marvel is dropping the ball not using her. Matter of fact, I was all up in the air about the marvel now thing and it's been mediocre at best. Not to say it hasn't had it's moments but for 3.99 a pop it's not what it should be.

What do you think of a ROM armor alteration? He's had the same look for years. Maybe Marvel could get behind a project reinvent?

    1. No way! Changing ROMs armor up would work about as well as changing RoboCops! Some things- you just don't mess with...
Heh, Marvel is dropping balls all over the place- still, they are doing better than DC. At least when Marvel made the "ultimate" universe they didn't stop publishing all their regular continuity books.
$3.99 *shudder* makes my skin craw. I did NOT last long buying comics at that price a couple years ago- I ended up saying "Fuck it!" (as I am wont to do) and just checking out trades from the library...
      SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY, PEOPLE!

    2. Think about it Brah? Brand new body armor, a whole new look with a sleek modern upgrade, a more pronounced face and a spaceknight team that actually look like there a team? Seems like a home run to me. Even Superman changed up his look. Marvel is slipping a little in the new outfit department. Luke Cage doesn't have a super suit yet.

    3. not that we can count on Marvel for anything, but a minor update to Rom's armor could work if done right. as for the library i just returned The Curse of the Mutants TPB with Blade, The X-Men and not to mention the vampire Jubilee it wasn't bad.

      Delete
    4. Modern? That's a bad word, my friend. "Modern" is everything that is wrong with comics today. ROM does not need slick new sleek armor, or a pronounced face, with a team that all looks similar- that is so far away from ROM that it can be made without actually being (re: ruining) ROM!
And Superman... wait- are you being sarcastic? You must be, right?? Am I being trolled right now??? -Because every look Superman has had that changed him, since 1971, has done so for the worse. 4 new Super-Men, as replacements- they were bad. In all black- bad. Mullet? -even worse. Red and Blue- THE WORST EVER. No trunks with unnecessary piping and armor-plating? Just plain stupid.
      And Luke Cage is near-impervious- why would he need a super-suit??? I... I don't even... *head-a-splode*

    5. Vampire Jubilee. -Classic. Ever read Captain Britain and MI13? Only ran 15 issues, I think?, but it was awesome fun! Dr. Doom and Dracula. On The Moon. With vampire-missiles. That's missiles- that ARE vampires. ON THE MOON. OMG.

    6. never did but i'll be on the look out for it at the library from now on.

    7. I agree with King on the Captain Britain series...it was great. Also the Wisdom series was good.

    8. I don't know how your libraries work out there- but here you can browse and order anything on their website and then they ship it from other libraries in the state, to yours, for pickup. There are times when I'll have 20-30 trades cycled through at once. It's awesome. Of course newer/more popular things take longer to get and you're put in a queue... but it's still awesome. So if you're not doing that already you should get more information from your local branch.

    9. King did you read the Pete Wisdom Max series....I thought it was cool.

      Delete
    10. No- I didn't. Lockheed & I never really liked the Wisdom character... Kitty deserves better. Hahaha! Seriously, though- putting Everybody's Girlfriend in a relationship like that was a bad move. Poor guy never had a chance. The Pryde and Wisdom mini was pretty awful... so I never bothered with the Max title.

      Delete
    11. the max title is sort of a prequel to the Captain Britain and MI 13 series. You are right though. Pryde and Wisdom....*ugh*

      Delete
    12. I had the same reaction to Pryde and Wisdom. So sad. I had been excited because Kitty was in her own thing, but then they goofed the whole thing up. Like KoT, it's why I never bothered with the Wisdom character again.

    13. I'm not sure about a revamping of the armor, Tiger. Most armor I've seen these days comes out looking like something someone would customize for their Halo character, or a Mass Effect space marine. Both cool concepts, but not exactly original anymore. In that vein, I think ROM's original armor is more "original" than everything out there.

    14. Having said that about Superman- the 2min. Bruce Timm animated 'history of' video on this page is AMAZING: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/10/14/superman-75-years-of-heroic-history-in-a-2-minute-animated-short-exclusive/

  6. Are you sure that's Mar-Vell? It might be a Skrull (stupid fucking 2007 Marvel fucking with my hopes)...
Still- BAD ASS! One of my favorite Silver Surfer comics is #63 with Captain Marvel. Still makes me tear up a little...
Speaking of Silver Surfer- new series by Slott/Allred?!? SOLD. "Anywhere and Everywhere- HANG ON!" FUCK!!! I will buy this book- SHUT UP AND TAKE MY $3.99 I DON'T EVEN CARE ANYMORE!

  7. Have you ever read Jack Staff by Paul Grist? He makes pretty cool homages to those old Marvel stories and more. The hero of the book is a kind of Captain Britain who has been misteriously off the radar for years. This project was offered to Marvel by the author and they rejected it. Definitely cool.

  8. That update photo is disturbuing . He prob is talking about how the shutdown is a deathwing of obamacare or how all the murders that day in chicago were due to some other political reasons. I always hated this guy.

    1. I was just thinking, it was the first time I didn't automatically disagree with something Emmanuel did. But I shudder to think what spin he could put on ROM to impressionable minds. Hopefully he just read the comic.

    2. I would hope so that he is just reading it straight like reading rainbow.i could see him being a fan .ROM does sond like RHAM so that makes sense. But ... I need to know more.if there was no spin on this then i got to give him props no matter for the reasons i dislike him and his personality.

    3. Being from Illinois, though, even if I see an Illinois politician do something cool, I am automatically suspicious. You could probably say that about politicians anywhere, but it feels like a particular brand of ick in this state.

    4. That's a Photoshopped image. It was a children's book (titled Duck for President) and someone inserted an open copy of ROM blown up to match the size. It's a good Photoshop, but it's not THAT good.

      Delete

    5. Quite right duck for president . I saw it on you tube too knowing it was way to large to be a issue of rom .was a good photoshop but the size gave it away

    6. That makes so much more sense.

  9. I absolutely LOVE the ROM with Sabra. And it does get you wondering where she's at. You'd think a writer with his finger on the pulse of current events would use her.
So many ideas for Team Ups with ROM that would be cool. He just fits in the intergalactic scale of the Marvel universe. And the Wraiths are an excellent foil when people get sick of those other shape changing whackos. Or the brood. Where are the brood, anyway? I think we need another splash page of Lockheed eating a queen's nest. Maybe he and ROM could team up. That would actually be kind of cool.

    1. Well she did live through Crossbones' sniper attack... Or at least they said she did- maybe that was editorial mandate. Because as far as I know- she has not been seen since. It's been, what?, a year- year and a half?
Last I saw of The Brood was when they were driven to near extinction in Annihilation and then Bishop was all like "We have to save them because of future stuff!", he's annoying like that- and the X-Men go "Okay- we will let their embryos grow inside of us because of reasons." and now the Brood are good guys? Comics!

      Delete
    2. I despise "reasons". It's why they keep throwing Kitty and Colossus at each other and breaking them up. "reasons". Psh. You know, if Doctor Who swooped down he and Bishop would have a reckoning.
