Sal Buscema at some of his best!

From the pages of Incredible Hulk 288 (Bill Mantlo) this clip art of the Abomination being tortured into submission by Modok represents some of the most awesomely stunning art work from Sal Buscema I have ever seen from him out side of the ROM series. It's past time I made sure this takes it place on the internet for any body any where in the world to enjoy. I mean just look at how dynamic the action is drawn it almost seems to come right off the pages. Plus it also helps the reader really empathize with what the Abomination is going through. Such a damn shame that a certain washed up has been artist (who shall remain nameless) tried to fill Buscema's shoes on another title (which shall remain nameless) Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema had worked on.

  1. You got a point on that. He was really solid, considering his brother was the more famous of the two. I know he was a big stable on Spectacular Spider-Man for most of its run in the 80's and 90's until he was basically forced off it. Idk about you but the only time I didn't like or care for his work was in the early to mid 90's, especially when heavy dark inkers like Klaus Jensen or Bill Siekiwtitz inked over him. Horrible, and just made his work look like crap; Case in point his work during the clone saga.

  2. I will also say that John was a better artist, but Sal was better in Superhero stuff, whereas John was brilliant in Conan especially in the black and white pages of "Savage sword of Conan". As for Sal's run on Spectacular, the highlight for me was the six part story called " the child within " which was written by the great J.Mark deMatteis the same writer that gave us " Kraven's last hunt". Sal did some terrific art there including inking his own pencils.

    1. hey there my friend good to hear from you again. very soon i'll be featuring another artist who's not as well known as either John or Sal but who's work easily rivals the two. i'll be curious to see what you think of that posting.
