Check out this douche bag when it comes to toy based Marvel comics

In my trolling of cool Rom related stuff over the years I've come across all sorts of stuff including what you see here. It's a portion of a page that's one of several which summerizes the history of The Micronauts toy line written and illustrated by doug chapel. Because the art work was so shitty I never paid much attention to this before while browsing the internet but something recently prompted me to take a closer look only to find that this idiot not only dumps on the Rom spaceknight comic book series, but also that of the Micronauts, Shogun Warriors and The Transformers as well.
In a separate spoof piece focusing on the Rom electronic doll he features the tag line "Based on a comic that basically went no where"
http://www.dsquared.org/art/rom_bw.jpg  I'd say 75 issues, 4 annuals and not too mention the continued use all the way up until today of the Marvel owned characters and concepts that sprung from the series kinda contradicts that moronic statement. Plus, the comic series came from the toy not vice versa hence the phrase toy based comics. I talk plenty on this blog about Rom of course and also about The Micronauts but I've also devoted some blog space in the past to both The Transformers and Shogun Warriors as well since I loved both those toy lines and had many of the issues from their respective series back in the day. In fact, Shogun Warriors #13 was one of the very very first ever comics I ever had which was at least a couple years before I ever discovered Rom. Sure everyone is entitled to their opinion but if you're going to dump on some of my favorite late 70s and 80s comic book sci-fi stuff on social media then get ready for some pay back.

  1. Yeah what a fool . I happen to own all the transformers marvel comics. 95% of ROM . Never was into Shogun or the Mirconauts back in the day. I finally started to read Mirconauts only this year by picking up the first 5 issues. That Transformers Univere issue 4 in the photo is great. That was the last of the 4 issue series. I loved these they went deep into the Transformers.

    1. I sent an email to this guy with just a message in the subject line telling him his stuff about Rom and the Micronauts sucked. he got back to me the next day telling me if I'm "brave" i'll tell him what about his art I don't like. so I replied by just telling him it's not just his art work but also the idiot stuff he writes in particular about how the Rom series went no where according to him. that was a couple of days ago I haven't heard from him since.

  2. Schmolo.....you can't argue with stupid. I bet ANYTHING this guy never read any of that stuff and is basing his "review" on what others said. You should give us all his email and where you found this so we can critique his stuff. I mean what has this jerk ever done.

    1. oh I'm not really arguing with him so much as just giving him shit here. wouldn't surprise me if this moron was a big fan of toy based comic titles that really didn't go any where like Air Raiders, Inhumanoids or The Visionaries. anyways, here's his email scootergeek@gmail.com

    2. Hey now not dissing on the Inhumanoids . Decompose aka starscream will have none of that. Laughs but really those were some cool toys and a fucking nuts cartoon show. Didnt know they had a comic run

    3. back in the day i atually liked the Inhumanoids cartoon. i didn't care for the toys but i did actually pick up the comic book because of the cartoon. it got cancelled after only 4 issues so even though i was kinda into it back then it indeed did go no where.

    4. What kid back then wouldnt like that cartoon ? mental scary tree people, people melting, and evil hordes from under the earth. My kid loves it even though it only lasted 13 eps. His third fav old schoolish cartoon. I only had two of the toys Tendrill and D'compose. D'compose ate many a gi joe fiq back then and only snake eyes could free them from his chest. Ahh memories .

    5. Hell yeah- Joseph, those were AWESOME figures! You're lucky- I never had any of the big-bads!!! But friends did- D'Compose was so fun! And I'm still keeping a lookout at Flea-Markets and Garage-Sales for a Tendril- he was my favorite!

  3. I agree with rt- he has never read any of it.
-He just thinks he's being so cool and funny being all snarky and trashing something he has never really heard of- thinking no one else has ever really heard of it so they'll think it's funny too.
You see that kind of shit on the internet all the time... You come across lists of people trashing old toy-lines or comic-characters with a "Look at this shit! Can you BELIEVE how dumb it is/looks" attitude. It's sad.

Or, and this is just a slim possibility- maybe he is joking? -Being sarcastically simplistic like ha-ha???

At any rate- you know how much I love my Shogun Warriors! And Air Raiders, Inhumanoids, and The Visionaries all rule too, Shlomo! I have their comics as well as toys- and watched all their cartoons. So watch it, buddy! (Okay, Air Raiders never had a cartoon- but their animated commercials were AWESOME! THE POWER IS IN THE AIR!)

As for ROM? He's okay... I guess.

    1. yeah along with Inhumanoids 1-4 i also had issue 1 of the Visionaries and Air Raiders. that was back in the day where every first issue was a "special edition collector's item". i was into Inhumanoids for a while there but the others never got any traction wih me. Starriors also never managed to capture a much of a market even though today the toys have their place in 80s collectables. i remember having the 3rd issue of the mini-series i kinda liked it. unfortunatly for the Starriors would be comic series the 4 issue mini didn't turn into an ongoing series despite the awesome Bill Sienkiewicz covers and Akin n' Garvey inks inside.

    2. Yeah- I picked up those Starriors comics one time at The Dirt-Mall last year. I was largely unfamiliar with them until then... Those covers were sweet!
Air-Raiders is something I like outta pure nostalgia... all my love for it comes from a certain toy I had gotten on clearance for 80 cents at a Value City, long after the line was canceled, when I was a kid...

  4. There is nothing wrong with his art, though. The overly-simplistic cartoony style may not be your thing (not mine either, really) but that does not mean it sucks... His stuff (on his site) is very well put-together and he has some nice graphic-design skills, for real. Looks like he has carved out a nice little niche for himself, too.
That Micronaut thing actually was for/in a Micronaut fan-magazine... So maybe it was being sarcastic.
Whatever. -I'm already done with his site.
Moving on... I've got more fucked-up things to write for my own stupid site this Monday......

  6. Read those The Rook pages... heavy stuff. How come you don't have it any more? I've never even come across those magazines- at comic shops or The Flea-Market...

That fan-art with ROM and Speedball was alright. Had Tag from Bloodstrike, and Red-Circle's The Fly in it too! -Very odd choice.

    1. yeah that Rook story is some classic post apocalyptic sci-fi reading you could almost see a scenario like that in real life play out that way. I mean shit man have you been following what's going on with Russia in The Ukraine?
my comic collection now is only about 1/4 what it was in the 80s and 90s. you'd think I was insane if you knew all the stuff I gave up at one point. but that's ok it's all still in my head and there's not much any more you can't find on the internet if you want to take a trip down memory lane. by the way I don't know if you noticed but that fan art with Speedball and Rom was done as a homage to the cover art of X-Factor #1

  7. That's some of the most asinine idiocy I've ever seen concerning Bronze Age toys and comics. Either he's uninformed, dumb or doesn't have the The slightest clue what parody is. Good on you for sending him an email because too many people are used to spouting their ignorant crap online without any fear of consequence.
