A portrait of Bill and friends

I found this really nice illustration of Bill while doing some random browsing on the net. It apparently was in the back pages of a Howard The Duck magazine from 1980. I then started to experiment a bit with various selected images from the fan art based on Bill's work I've done over the past couple of years and I think it turned out alright.
Update: And speaking of fan art of all sorts here's some stuff that's appeared recently that's worth taking a look at:

  1. That's beautiful, Shlomo. Truly. A touching tribute to a man who touched so many.
Speaking of Howard, I've been watching Caroline in the City reruns lately (anyone remember that show? Starring Lea Thompson who was also in the Howard the Duck movie?) and there was a Howard the Duck movie reference. Not exactly a Mantlo moment, but if you were playing six degrees of Bill, it reached him in three.

    1. actually i never heard of that show before. but i think Thompson's signature role of her career was as Michael J. Fox's mother in the Back to The Future movies. i never cared for the sequels but the original was classic 80s fun.

    2. It was a cute, kind of forgettable part of early must see TV. Harmless fluff with a bunch of sarcasm. You're right about Lea's signature role, though. She will forever be remembered for acting her way around a pink fluffy prom dress in a car. And kissing her son.

    3. I used to watch that show! Really just because I found Lea Thompson sexy a FUCK... then I found out she fucked a duck...... ;)

    4. And that ruined it for you? Really, you shouldn't be so prejudicial.

    5. hey Random, ironic that only after a couple of days I post this portrait art of Bill that was found in a Howard the Duck magazine should we also find some new fan art from Dann Phillips that happens to feature Rom and Howard (among other Marvel characters). as far as I'm concerned that new art from Phillips is basically a Mantlo tribute piece since it also has The Hulk, The Human Fly and Acroyear from The Micronauts in it.

    6. Isn't that a totally awesome random happenstance? I love the way ROM and Howard seem to be staring at each other too.

  3. Nice tribute to Mantlo Shlomo. I like it a lot. Rad fan art as well. I really really like that second one and that Starshine sketch is breathtakingly awesome. Lastly and certainly not least Danns ROM takes on everyone is killer. I love how he does Howard and how he has ROM holding Iron man's head.I wonder to myself what happened to start this battle ? Dann never disappoints especially in that way

    1. well look who's back from Limbo again. I hope you took a minute to check out some of those links to the fan art out there we've found recently. I know at least one piece has Deathlock in it.
