Watchwraith custom figure by Chris Motito

Ya know it's funny, last night about a half hour prior to finding this recently completed custom on deviant art I had just fired off an email to Gary (check your email!) asking him if he had discovered anything cool out there I could post. I would have liked to have seen more of these guys in the original ROM series and I imagine so would many other fans out there.

Some clip art from the good ol days.

Well I must say that's a cool display even with the zero issue in it given that I liked the cover art on it at least. But that t-shirt really kicks ass it's more the kind of ROM I want do you recognize the art work in it? If not this should jog your feeble memory...

I had to do a double take when I saw this in the Hasbro Micronauts display. No way this could be some kind of vintage Micronauts box set I never knew about so I think this must be some sort of new release retro kinda thing. Look at that beautiful box art! Very reminiscent of Ken Kelly's classic renderings on not just the original Micronauts toy line box and card art but also for Masters of The Universe packaging and even KISS albums.
Hopefully hasbro will do something cool like this for ROM and at least give us a cool toy since we're not going to get a cool comic book series. Did you know hasbro already made a heromugg out of one of the Visionaries characters? Enough with this heromugg shit already hasbro stop squandering your resources on shitty merchandise hardly any of the fans want.

    2. OK,..my opinion is I've only seen 1 issue so I'm reserving judgement until I've read more. The art style really isnt to my taste.

    1. Hello Joseph! You must be psychic man, because Rainbow is coming up right after I finish my current project! All the customs I'll be working on are from the Sal era ROM issues!

  3. Wow, phenomenal job on that custom figure Chris. well done.

And oh yeah, damn that Micronauts box art is sweet as fuck! Definitely reminds of old art like that, like on MOTU figures from back in the day.

  4. Where was that glass display case with the ROM merchandise displayed? That image on the ROM shirt is now one of my favorite, if not my favorite, ROM image because it's old school look ROM but with a very modern cinematic look.

    2. Anonymous, your description of the art as cinematic is apropros because that t-shirt's artwork seems to have originated as movie key art from Allspark Pictures & Paramount as they begin work on the Hasbro Cinematic Universe. http://news.toyark.com/2016/02/12/hasbro-talk-new-hasbro-cinematic-universe-192021

Still unknown if the new hat & shirt were only mock-ups for this convention display, but I can tell you that I searched the latest Diamond Previews catalog for them & came up disappointedly empty.

    3. If anyone finds a hi rez version of ROM's cinematic universe image referenced above, please post a link or Shlomo, at least post it on the blog.

    4. Seconded: I'm waiting for it to reappear higher-rez, too. So far I've only seen it in that one slide from the Hasbro presentation, which is shown in the link just above, but here is a direct link to only the image that appears larger than they show it on that page:

I just noticed that the t-shirt version does not have the white name over the Neutralizer, so definitely looking forward to a full clean image, someday.

  5. IDW'S "REVOLUTION" FIRST-MONTH (SEPTEMBER) PRE-ORDER INVESTMENT LEVELS AS QUOTED TODAY BY DCBS, BEFORE SHIPPING COSTS:

    $17.54 = every main issue (Road To Revolution Special, Revolution #1 & 2, the 3 one-shots ROM M.A.S.K. & Micronauts)

$33.08 = also crossover issues (3 Transformers titles, Action Man, ROM & Micronauts)

$1,487.83 = every cover variant of all the above

    IDW = Insane Dollars Warning!!!!!!

October's "every cover" ""investment"" would be around $172 and November's only(!) $70, assuming no more 1:100 or higher incentive variants & no more surprise tie-ins being added in the next two months of future solicitations (the only one that's supposed to be is ROM #4). There will almost surely be a Transformers ongoing relaunch that will probably have the typical super-rare incentives, maybe they can resist the temptation to make it a direct tie-in. The same scenario is possible for G.I. Joe, and M.A.S.K.'s ongoing #1 expected in November.

As is, a truly complete Revolution variants collection that would also include June thru August's banner-marked prelude issues of the 5 action ongoings would easily cost close to $1,900.00, and that's at DCBS's 35% off retail.

Even I'm not that crazy, Dave.

    I think. This morning anyway.

    2. in other words folks stop wasting your hard earned money on all this shit from IDW.

    3. Thanks for the info Gary. I just want the main issues and don't give a darn for variant covers, so $17.54 is more palatable than $1500. Ha! I love ROM, but not that much.

    4. They did, as I thought they probably would, add another surprise tie-in: Transformers Titans Return is a one-shot deluxe comic that was not originally solicited as having anything to do with Revolution, but a recent reveal of its variant cover (so the final regular one probably will follow suit) has the "Road To Revolution" banner, AND to add even more significantly to the 'every cover variant' collector's investment total, there's a Transformers Titans Return Convention Edition only at SDCC. ROM appears on this special cover even though he probably doesn't inside.

    5. I just remembered that my initial "investment" rant above only took into account the main Revolution series & very direct tie-ins, and not the Road To Revolution issues (which started with the banner on the cover of last month's Transformers: Till All Are One #1), so this new Titans Return thing is sort of separate. It's just more on my radar now because of the new ROM appearance on the convention cover.
