SHOGUN WARRIORS 13

Yesterday I came across Shogun Warriors issue 13 (1979) at my LCS which was one of the very first comics I ever got my hands on as a kid. Unfortunately, it wasn't in a discount back issue box so this was one of those rare times where I bought a comic from the regular back issue section.

But then again what's a few bucks out of your pocket in exchange for a trip down memory lane huh? So it was worth it to me, especially since there's very little of the clip from the issue available on the internet. Well I'm glad now that I have a copy again I can do something about that.

A Shogun Warriors key word search on this blog will show you this isn't the first time I've blogged about them and of the fond memories I have of the toys and comics from back in the day. I almost forgot about this old photo I had from back in 1980 or 81 (back when I lived in Seattle) that's a scan from a old Polaroid of my action figure collection. You can see Shogun Warrior Gaiking right next to Vader at the top. Just below Captain Kirk is next to Maximillian from The Black Hole. For some reason I have Flash Gordon wearing Starbuck's cape and Starbuck wearing Commander Adam's cape (with a Cylon next to him). We also see Twiki from Buck Rogers along with an assortment of figures from the Fisher-Price adventure collection. No need for me to roll call all the Star Wars figures in the photo right?

  1. Cool. I believe Shogun Warriors and Godzilla were the first two Marvel Universe series I collected after Rom. They had both concluded by then, so I felt collecting them wouldn't be a burden. Oh, and I still have them.

    1. You sure do have a way Lee of turning up here when I least expect you to.

    2. I'm not just a Rom fan like you; I'm a child of the '80s like you. Speaking of which, I've still got my Twiki (Buck Rogers) and Vincent (The Black Hole) figures. Those are the only figures I bought in each of those lines. Notice a pattern? I want to get a vintage Daggit figure from Battlestar Galactica to have a protagonist robot figure from that line.

    3. I was never able to find Vincent but in the early 90s I did manage to find a dagget at a vintage toy show. I think I'm gonna change things up on this blog moving forward. My postings will largely be spur of the moment and consist of anything comic book and sci-fi related that I feel should have it's place on the internet. So that means I might post about something cool again next week or maybe not until summer time we'll just have to see.

  2. Awwww, how cute man! True Vintage Shlomo toys. Nice. I was a big fan of the movie Black Hole, especially the next to last scene with Maximillion floating in space with that robot. Haunting. Not sure if its aged well (probably not) but I liked it.

    1. The Black Hole was definitely one of those movies I loved as a kid but when I watched it again as an adult it was pretty bad so no it did not age well. But that doesn't take away from the fond 80s memories fortunately.

  3. Exactly. It really hasn't aged well....at all, but like you said thank god for nostalgia.

  4. Walrus man !! The only fiq i was missing in my youth from the first three movies. Jawas with vinyl capes? Had like 5 and regret them going to family garage sale way back. Kick myself for not knowing how much they are worth now then. Also buck and the blackhole are classics! Never had shogun comics maybe I need to finally check em out

    1. Admittedly the Shogun Warriors comics were more visually entertaining then they were to read. Herb Trimpe had a knack for drawing giant robots fighting all kinds of bizarre monsters as you can see. But unfortunately the background story and supporting characters Marvel had created for The Shogun Warriors comic book series was not nearly as good as that of ROM or The Micronauts. Glad you liked Rogue 1 as much as I did at least we can agree on Star Wars movies unlike all The Transformers sequels.

    2. The transformer thing will always get me with nostalgia. I will definitely see the next one. Got to be better then the last (wasnt as good as it should have been maybe this will make up for it)
