2015 certainly has ended on an interesting and in some cases a hopeful note. If you do a key word search for "Rom spaceknight Hasbro" on Google you will get close to a dozen articles all saying the same thing about future movie prospects for these properties:
Micronauts, ROM, G.I.Joe, Transformers, M.A.S.K, Visionaries as well as rumors of a shared universe in IDW comics. Same goes for doing the same key word search on youtube. As I said in the previous posting It's just too early to get worked up over any of that especially the movie talk. By the way, did you all know that a live action
JEM and The Holograms movie (who was the genius that came up with that idea?) came out earlier this year? I'm sure most of you know JEM was an 80s cartoon that IDW picked up and made into a comic series. Anyways, as I understand it that movie is still trying to recoup it's 5 million dollar budget.
The Micronauts art work seen above turns up a lot in reference to those articles and videos and I'd love to know who did it and why. Is it some promotional stuff from Hasbro or IDW or just some really cool fan art? I'm inclined to think the later since it contains Marionette and Bug which are marvel properties. I think I'd prefer space glider in his more traditional head gear but this is otherwise a way cool updated interpretation of The Micronauts and done by one Hell of an artist obviously. All this has me wondering if IDW will have anything for The Micronauts on Free Comic Book Day this year like they will for ROM. I sure hope so.

January 7th Update: Here's a little something from Rom curator extraordinaire Gary Martin Jr. found in the pages of Tony Isabella's
1000 Comic Books You Must Read. This Isabella guy has good taste to get a better idea what else is in his book go here:

And there's more from Gary brought to you from the pages of Mediascene magazine issue 37 (May-June 1979). Well as we know the joint marketing efforts for the toy by Marvel and Parker Brothers were in vain but for the comic series it's self was certainly another matter. A black n white image of ROM #1 went along with this blurb just so you know but how many times do I need to post that cover right it's not like we've never seen it before right?
If I live long enough to see a fully-realized Visionaries: Knights of The Magical Light movie, I'll have to kill myself- because it can't get much better than that!!!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand: The JEM movie had next to nothing to do with JEM and The Holograms. -The cartoon, or the comic series.
It was an embarrassment- made for no one. Hence the epic loss of money.
Well, Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Feliz Navidad! -I'm back!
The return of The King! And I ain't talkn about Elvis. Saw the other comment you left I'm glad to see you're still looking forward to the new Rom series despite the lack of mittens. Aside from that you may get your ultimate cross over since Rom and the Visionaries may inhabit the same IDW universe. I remember I had Visionaries number one back when all first issues were "collectors items". So hey man I wanna know what you thought about The Force Awakens?
DeleteNope; you're talkin' Théoden! Ah-ha-ha! ...Lord of The Rings joke.
DeleteAnyways- yeah, my compy is un-blown-up.
ROM will be fine, I'm sure... But will it be awesome? -We'll see...
I'm very curious about The Dire Wraiths, and how they will look in the new series. -Because they are mentioned (not shown) on the original toy packaging: So Hasbro owns them as characters. BUT how they look in The Marvel Universe comics is trademarked by Marvel. So???
Hmmmm- maybe THEY will have mitten-hands in the redesign!!!
A New Hope? Yeah- it's great!
Oh, no- you mean The Force Awakens... yeah, it's still great. Hard not to be when you're just a soft reboot of the first movie in the franchise.
I loved it, though! It did everything right. Made up for the abysmal prequels... They even blew up Coruscant and The Senate just as an added "fuck you!" to Lucas...
The characters were all great.
BB8 wasn't annoying at all, I was worried it might be- but nope- it was adorable.
All and all it was just nice to see a new Star Wars movie in the theater without constantly groaning and rolling my eyes at continuously stupid shit.
How about you? -You dig it?
Yeah I'm pretty sure the dire wraiths will have a new look to them. As for Star Wars, did you not notice the previous posting?
DeleteI wonder if we'll even get to see it/them in issue zero... I'm guessing not.
DeleteA new year with 5 months to go before issue 0. Cant wait till the greates of the solstar order will rise from the ashes. That Micronauts art is killer wonder when we get more news from IDW about that series. This post is great a double revival first "The Return of the King" and second that classic ROM,Prime, and Acroyear sketch you did David. Its so much closer to reality then it ever was or will be these days . Time will tell. JEM laughs..just like back in the day I only cared when it was over for Transformers or whatever to come on. Something always GOOD seemed to come on after or before JEM back in the day.
ReplyDeleteIt's 5 months that can't come fast enough. Yeah I never watched the Jem cartoon either back in the day but it must still have its fans given the IDW series and the fact they made a movie at all no matter how bad it was.
DeleteYou are SO right, Joseph! JEM was ALWAYS on right before- or after something good when I was a kid... So I always would see SOME of it. And I'd be all like: "Ewww, lame! This is for GIRLS! BOOO!" But secretly I loved The Misfits. Their songs WERE better! That was the catalyst that sparked my interest in Punk Rock and crazy bitches when I was in High School. I owe a lot to JEM, from my formative years...
DeleteQuite right king I would always HAVE to watch some of JEM all the time back then as well .I completely agree about the Misfists . I always thought they where hotter and where the best part of having to HAVE to watch JEM for whatever I was waiting for. Good chance they probably helped instill my love for the bad girls early on.
DeleteVery cool Micronauts art there. So all those properties could have movies out soon? Hmmm. Interesting. I do like the ideas of all those properties possibly co-habitating a shared universe though. Kinda odd, but then for those of us who had toys of most of these properties, they already were sharing a universe in our imaginations, so....
ReplyDeletewell only time will tell how that shared universe will work out in print if and when it actually happens. but i have more immediate things i'm looking out for when it comes to IDW this year. go back over to Mr. Morbid's House i left an important question over there for you.
