Can't think of a good posting title for this bullshit

Left click to enlarge . . . fuck marvel
Well I'm a spaceknight . . he's a spaceknight . . she's a spaceknight . . they're spaceknights  . . wouldn't you like to be a spaceknight to? Yeah it seems like every fucken space cadet in Marvel from Venom to a bunch of nobodies in the pages of some Guardians of the Galaxy spin off are now "spaceknights". Please do not try to brain storm this! These are not Galadorian spaceknights nor do they have anything to do with Galadorian spaceknights any more then Venom does. It's just that simple!
This is nothing more then the latest installment of the sullying process of ROM's legacy that marvel has been engaged in for the past 15 fucken years. A process I have blogged about extensively over the years with everything from that horrible spaceknights mini-series (2001) to The Annihilators (2011) and those those poorly handled Hybrid returns in recent years not to mention Galador's destruction and there's so much more as many of you followers of this blog know. As for you detractors of the IDW ROM reboot you need to understand that the ROM you knew is never coming back.
You think even if marvel obtained the rights to ROM again (which will never happen) they would reintroduce him exactly as you remember him with mittens and all? Think about what's been going on in the Marvel Universe in general as well as how marvel has so thoroughly fucked up everything they own that's ROM related and tell me you can just make The Greatest of The Spaceknights show up in the middle of all that shit just as you remembered him in the 80s? Folks, the 80s are over and same goes for the 90s which was a decade that was still giving us some good ROM related continuity in the pages of The Incredible Hulk, New Warriors and X-Man (Nate Grey).
By all means continue to enjoy those ROM back issues, tie-ins, Easter eggs, foot notes and of course the other random old school stuff I try to bring you here. But if there was ever a time to hit the reboot button I'd say it was now. I would certainly understand the cautious optimism most of you have about IDW's upcoming series I can't blame you all on that one but at the same time try to keep an open mind. Think of it in terms of Star Wars The Force Awakens. It may not be quite like reliving the thrill of seeing the original trilogy but it probably at least gave you a taste of it and was a Hell of a lot better then those shitty prequels. For ROM fans, marvel has been giving us nothing but Star Wars prequels (barring The 2010 Winter Gaurd mini-series) in the past 15 years but I think IDW's efforts will be something closer to The Force Awakens. But if not, I'll have a thing or two to say about that and it probably won't be G rated.

Speaking of bullshit related to all things "spaceknights" and Guardians of The Galaxy check out this video that will make you cringe at how uninformed the speaker in it is when he tries to talk about ROM it's really fucken annoying . . .

On the flip side this is kind of a cool recent article about comics based on 80s licensed properties  (Rom, Crystar, Shogun Warriors, Micronauts, G.I.Joe, Transformers and He-Man) http://www.denofgeek.us/books-comics/action-figures/251402/the-7-greatest-comic-series-based-on-toy-lines

  1. What really pissed me off about the Venom Spaceknight series is not the title. I get the title- they still can use the word/term, so fucking use it! What pissed me off is they did not GO FOR IT. I mean REALLY go for it in the story, don't just throw the title of "Spaceknight" around; re-brand it! Make it mean something again.
In the two issues of Venom Spaceknight I read (that are out) they NEVER, not once, in the actual comic call him a Spaceknight or explain what that term now means in the no-ROM Marvel Universe.
The title he, and others like him, have IN the book is: 'Agent of The Cosmos'. So why is the book not called Venom: Agent of The Cosmos then??????
-They are just using the term Spaceknight because they have the term Spaceknight lying around. -It's like it was an afterthought. That's bullshit.
    And seems spiteful.
They could have reinvented the Klyntar (Symbiotes) as the NEW GUARD of Spaceknights since ROM is never coming back. I would have been fine with that- I was looking forward to it even! But alas, except for the art, Venom Spaceknight isn't very good. I won't stick with it.
But stuff like The Vision in suburbia, Amazing Spider-Man globe-trotting, The Ultimates "fixing" Galactus, Invincible Iron Man and Doctor Strange being "Awesome Facial-Hair Bros!", and Weird Word simply existing are too damn awesome for me to ever say FUCK MARVEL.

And now that Marvel's ROM is for sure gone forever- it's kind of a relief, you know? They can't tease returns anymore or get my hopes up only to dash them. They can say Spaceknight all they want- it literally means nothing anymore.
It's FINALLY over, Shlomo. Marvel can't hurt us any more... We lost.
BUT if the new series is any good: We'll really have won!

By the way- what did you think of Weird World and the return of Arkon, Skull The Slayer, and Marvel's other toy-related-characters; The Crystal Warriors? So awesome to see them all again!

    1. the last time i bought a new comic from marvel was in August 2013. that was Infinity #1 which opened up with Galador getting incinerated which came right after an Avengers issue gave us a preview panel of Ikon leading a squad of our beloved classic spaceknights which we hadn't seen since the last ROM issue of the original series. anyways, that was it for me i decided right there marvel would never get another cent of my money when it came to their new books and keep in mind i went into that already pretty pissed with the unimaginative and poorly written Hybrid return in Avengers Academy the year before. i have no problem saying FUCK MARVEL no matter what they're publishing.

    2. It really is your loss, man... Crystar!
I like ROM too- but I like Marvel Comics more than just a character they have not used since The 80's. Lots of other amazing comics on a weekly basis are > one comic based on a toy they don't make anymore.
It's a weird hill to die on, but I guess it's your hill.
I'ma go read the new Deadpool that has Foolkiller, Solo, Terror Inc., and Madcap in it. It's a great time to be a Merry member of The Marvel Marching Society!!!

    3. Nah I don't think so I get people telling me that all the time as far as other new stuff from both marvel and DC. Think of it from a customer service stand point I wouldn't spend my money at a restaurant that didn't have good servers or the sort of food I'm really in the mood for. Besides, I've had a look at new stuff over years from copies of books that end up in dollar, 50 and 25 cent boxes and I don't feel like I'm missing anything either marvel or DC especially with those cover prices. Great art work though but that alone doesn't sell the book for me.

  3. I think you'll dig books like Saga then Sholmo. I discovered the book fully last year, and it blows away just about anything put out by the big two, save for certain indy titles. So Marvel's completely done with ROM huh? Well like the King said, good. Now you and other ROM fans know where you stand on that issue, can hopefully move on and enjoy IDW's attempts at filling that gap. Let's face it, if Marvel really felt that ROM was worth their time, they'd be publishing both Star Wars and ROM right now, a they did back in the day. For some reason, ROM just doesn't resonate or interest the main people in charge, so until that changes, no ROM FOR YOU!!!!! Fucking Nazi Soup guy.....But yeah Weirdworld is back, as is Skull the Slayer and Crystar...Weird how that happened....

    1. marvel has been done with ROM for the past 15 years. which pisses me off ofcourse but what in some ways pisses me off even more is all the lame shit they keep doing with the aspects of ROM that they own or otherwise can legally keep using as described in this posting.
but it's not just with ROM marvel has been doing the exact same thing to The Micronauts as well that could probably be a whole other posting. and then there's The Shogun Warriors another successful 80s licensed property with a fan following today that marvel won't touch at all what's so ever.

as far as new comics go let me share a recent story with you which i hope K.o.T will find. i was at a comic shop in Reno with a friend who also happened to be staying up there at the time for Thanksgiving Day weekend. i spotted the cover of a Batwoman with Ragman and some Hebrew writing on the cover so i was like cool and for a moment there was thinking this might be the first new comic i will have bought in the past 2 years now. but i took a look inside and it wasn't quite what i was expecting or maybe hoping for. i was just casually browsing through it at first but then i just ended up reading it right there cuz you know how it is with comics these days you can practically read an entire issue at a red light while driving. it wasn't anything special and it wasn't even Ragman's first appearance in the new DC Universe like i initially thought because he had popped up in some other panels here and there in a previous Batwoman issue they also had on the shelves. i dunno maybe it's because Batwoman is also Jewish and you had Hebrew lettering on that cover that i thought it was gonna be some sort of Batwoman/Ragman team up one shot story line or the beginning of a new story line which would have made for a good jumping on point. but it was none of that and Ragman's participation in the issue ended up being some what minimal and not particularly impressive compared to the other stuff i've read with him in the old DCU.
needless to say i didn't buy it and i ended up spending my money in the back issue section where among a couple other things i ironically found the last issue i was missing to complete the Shadowpact run. you know where i come up with the New DCU Suicide Squad and ofcourse there's this shit with ROM and marvel. fuck it i just ain't interested in new comics bro my enthusiasm for em is just not there. i make an exception for Onyx ofcourse. besides, i was just at a comic shop this past weekend that had a 10 cent back issue boxes! they used to run for 50 cents a couple years ago then last year got bumped down to 25 cents each.

  4. Oh I hear ya man. I hardly buy comics any more, let alone how I used to. Nowhere close. 2-3 years ago, I was buying on a monthly basis, even if it was a few comics, but these days, outside of special trips out of town to hunt down back issues on the cheap, mostly it's figures that take up most of my time and money. But otherwise, the indies, with Dynamiye, Valiant, Image, IDW, ....these are the places worth youir hard-earned money. Otherwise, you're not and I'm not, missing on out on the current crop of shit to come out of both these days....although I hear Batgirl and Omega Men, as well as Lee Weeks/Dan Jurgans Superman project are good.

  5. There was a reference to the actual Spaceknights in Uncanny Avengers. Essentially Hank Pym who fused with Ultron (long story) managed to save a spaceship from some alien bugs & when he entered to check on the passengers they asked if he was from Galador & is a Spaceknight. It was small but hey at least they know what an actual Spaceknight is.

    1. Edit: Granted Ultron doesn't exactly scream Spaceknight but hey neither did the revival mini-series.

    2. The clip art from The Avengers issue you referenced with all that bogus spaceknight stuff has been up on the most recent posting since last night didn't you notice it when you left your comment?

  6. Marvel owns Crystar. It is NOT one of their licensed properties.

    1. indeed, confirmed by Wikipedia. although for Crystar fans their interest would probably be best served were it IDW that owned the property. i remember you from when Lee used to blog but i don't think I've seen you here before.
