Well here we go folks my figure just arrived in the mail. Yep, I just decided to say fuck it and hit that "Buy Now" button on ebay when I saw it for only $43 with free shipping. That was by far the cheapest deal I had come across after having looked around for the past couple weeks. I didn't really see much point in waiting another two weeks or a month on the chance it turns up by another seller for a few bucks less I just wanted to see what the figure is like beyond photos on the internet sooner then later. Plus the seller I bought it from very quickly answered my questions before I committed to the purchase which pretty much was the final selling point, customer service really can go a long way with prospective buyers. As for the dealer you might be interested to know according to him he purchased two of the Hasbro sets for the express purpose of breaking them apart and selling off the individual pieces. So now that I have it I'm pretty happy with it despite what ever imperfections it might have. Shit, I don't understand why there aren't any better photos of this thing on the internet it's virtually as articulate as a Micronauts or G.I.Joe figure. As an over all product for a ROM fan it is still profoundly more satisfying then the the poorly handled ROM related continuity from marvel in the past 17 years and more recently that horrible mighty mugg doll and ofcourse IDW's Rom in name only series. Coolest ROM spaceknight merchandise I've gotten since my T-shirt from Redbubble a while back . . .

Any of you out there watch The Defender's first season yet? I went through the whole season last Sunday and damn I have to say it was pretty good. I know the whole independent heroes becoming reluctant allies thing in the Marvel Universe might be a bit of a cliche at this point but it's still fun as hell to watch if it's written well as was the case also for The Avengers. The chemistry between the characters is great and the quips gave me more then a few good laughs. The other strong selling point is that the series seems to have found a really good balance between the original source material and the NetFlix reinterpretations of the characters and that includes Elektra. And it some ways that especially goes for the Misty Knight (SO HOT!) character you'll be like "holly shit" when you see what happens to her in the final episode. The only little bit of a let down I had was that I was hoping to get a Punisher appearance some where in the season even if it had just been as part of a cliff hangar at the end of the final episode. Can't imagine him not showing up at some point in the following season or seasons of The Defenders.

I thought this might be a good time to share this from The Fear It's Self series a few years or so ago. The dire wraith appearance in this story line never was explained or other wise made any sense but this was kind of a cool moment with Luke Cage.

  1. He looks way better in your pics, not so bulky upper armour as I thought and I really like his boosters and neutralizer,I think I'm having a change of heart about this figure I quite like it now.I wonder if ever Hasbro will mass produce it,I would certainly buy one if it ever arrived here in Greece.

    1. yeah once i got a chance to mess around with the figure i realized that people hadn't been posting the best kind of photos of this thing for whatever reason. just so you know his chest is bulky because the figure twists in the upper body region instead of at the waist line. although even with that it seems they could have made it a bit less bulky but that's probably my only real criticism of the figure now that i have it. i suspect it will always be a specialty item and not something you'll find on store shelves but hopefully over time it will become a bit cheaper. but ya know what? as a ROM fan going all the way back since i was a little kid (i discovered him when i saw a copy of issue 22 at some store i can't remember) it's great to finally have an actual ROM action figure with many moving joints. besides, in the grand scheme of things i'm not gonna miss that $43 dollars. especially for an item i'll cherish for years to come almost as much as the ROM comic collection (including essential tie-ins) it's self.

    2. Yes I noticed the chest articulation in the Greek flag pic you've send me. Except for the fingers and lower legs it is old school Rom design.
I would not mind giving a price of 36,41 Euro for it but I fear the high shipping costs.

    3. Yeah I'd be afraid of that shipping charge to but based on the weight of the figure and stuff I've mailed to Israel in the past I'm guessing for Greece you be looking at roughly 15 euros but that's just a wild guess off the top of my head. looks like the same seller has his other Rom figure up on eBay now for the same price you might want to ask about it he was really cool with me when I had some questions for him.

    4. I checked on ebay and they charge around 38 to 45 Euro to ship it,that's too heavy aprice for me.

    5. Well, looks like my wild guess was way off. Damn, the shipping would cost you more then the figure it's self. Ya know my friend, America really is the best country in the world to live in if you happen to be a sci-fi comic book fan boy. Aside from the fact most of all that shit came from here.

    6. I agree, Europe has a strong sci-fi/fantasy comic tradition also but I was always a Marvel guy, started with Spider-man at the age of six.

  2. Huh. I gotta' say he looks pretty damn good. I'd buy him.

No appearance by Frank huh? Funny considering I thought they were promoting Frank with the team, maybe I was wrong. Probably saving Frank for his own upcoming show.

    1. My guess is that they're saving The Punisher for the next season so he can make a dramatic entrance at some point when the team is in deep shit. So if you're privy to the spoilers then you know what happens to Misty Knight at the end of the season?

  3. Like any who follow the Twitter account of Chris Ryall, I've known of the "ARRIVAL" (sorry) of the ROM figure, along with the Hasbro universe set for awhile now.
    .
But, I'm waiting for the prices to stabilize before I pull the trigger.

Sadly, I'm no longer at a well-paying gig and any "extra" funds are tied up with upcoming (really expensive) Doctor Strange statues and figures.
    .
I'm SO GLAD that YOU got one.
To accept this iteration (which looks very close to CLASSIC ROM) is a big step for you.
(But Damn, I hate the fingers and I miss the old boots).
    .
    I will get one.
    Just not yet.
    .
    Congratulations to YOU, sir!

    1. "I'm waiting for the prices to stabilize", you sound like your talking about the stock market. i gotta tell ya Ptor, the last time we spoke you had been still picking up the idw Rom in name only series and at the time had not read a single issue. i just find it so odd considering your ever persistent budgetary concerns and your dislike of the ROM redesign. i never had a big issue with an updated ROM having fingers but i absolutely hate everything else idw came up with for the new look so that means you dislike the redesign even more then i do. blows me away that you keep giving idw more money in spite of all that. or have you finally dropped the series?

    2. haha... nope.
I still bought each and every issue.
(and STILL have yet to read one of them.)

I even bought the ROM/Micronauts mini (though I did not buy the big overall IDW crossover with GI Joe and everything else. Just couldn't afford to do so).

My love of old-school ROM gave me the reason to buy the series (heck, I even bought the hardcover Oversteet Price Guide that had the new ROM on the cover).

      BUT, I hate the redesign.
That figure looks like he's wearing baggy sweatpants.

But then, I LOVE the MightyMuggs figure!
      lol

I still haven't bought the new figure, but will one day.

Maybe when I do, then I'll finally get around to reading the series.

      ;-)

  4. I like the new Hasbro ROM figure. Its not the ROM figure I've always wanted, but its a ROM figure and it looks like a quality cast for factory made. You definitely scored picking one up for 43 bucks. The figure is cool but I'm not going to kill myself to get one.

    1. well i can certainly understand that given that you can have and can make more ROM figures your self. unfortunately i don't have that talent of yours so for me this factory manufactured figure was worth every penny. but i can still understand why someone wouldn't want to pay $43 for a non vintage action figure just on general principle.

    2. Cool ROM . I like that he is based on classic ROM not new ROM. Not for me though as cool as it is we have that nice one via Chris.

    3. Well it wasn't love at first sight and I was plenty annoyed that it was part on expensive set. But after a while on a whim I started looking on eBay for loose ROM figures and eventually hit the "buy now" button when I saw what I was pretty sure would be the best deal any time soon. Worth every penny now that I have it it's been so long since I bought something having to do with ROM I was pretty happy with. A breath of fresh air for sure between all the Rom related garbage Marvel has been cranking out for years now, that stupid mighty mugg doll and ofcourse the idw R.I.N.O series.

    4. Joseph, you are the best dude. I'm so glad that you are happy with your ROM figure and that hes in a good place. Thanks for the shout out! ROM IS FOREVER my friends!

  5. I was wondering if you would like this figure or not! It is definitely a hybrid of old & new, but has plenty of classic feel to it.

The only element of it that stands out as lazy design to me is the leg areas that look like he is wearing baggy silver pants. Seems like they used parts from other action figures wearing pants, instead of just fully sculpting new leg molds. All that aside, it does look like a fun figure to own as a ROM fan :)
