The ebay connection and some new fan art!

So I finally got my copy of Marvel Team Up Annual #3 which I bought on ebay from a seller who really took their sweet time getting it into the mail. As such you may have noticed I just updated the clip art in the previous posting (The Delmar Connection) Brock Jone's meeting with Power Man & Iron Fist check it out. And you may have also noticed that over the weekend the addition of some clip art from Machine Man #19 of a cameo appearance by Brock Jones compliments of Gary Martin Jr. "a Rom curator".
Poor Brock, longing for the good ol days of his football career stardom having to do the 9 to 5 routine in a business suite behind a desk at Delmar never really settled well for him. The random happenstance of having the Torpedo armor handed off to him like a baton from one runner to another gave him an opportunity he couldn't resist despite the danger to himself and even his family. Unfortunately on the heels of him finally being ready to hang up the super hero gig and go back to being a full time husband and father he had a first time encounter with the sorceress female Dire Wraiths and we all know how that story ended.

And speaking of all things ebay I guess this is a good a time as any to share these two large scale sketch cards that I saw on ebay some time ago. I seem to remember the full body one going for about $70 and the other for $40. Pretty reasonable prices for some well done original art. Just for the record I didn't buy em I'm just featuring a jpeg file I made out of the ebay ads of them here for this posting.

  1. That's what I like about your blog, if you can't find the ROM art, you make it yourself. :)

  2. Nice one Dave! Hulk is where I first came across Sabra so this cover reminds me of that piece - except there it was Sabra getting the drop on the Green Goliath!

As for eBay, don't you hate waiting on parcels. Talk about things that make you Hulk Smash!

    1. It's always nailbiting. Especially if you haven't done business with the seller before.

  3. Random, well you know what they say if you want something done right . . . or if you wanna see it done at all.

Thanks Dan, if it's HULK 256 you're talking about it so happens that was her first appearance in the Marvel Universe.

    3. David AKA shlomo you are the biggest raciest I know. I think its sad when you goto into facebook and insult Muslims and Christians!!! You celebrate the deaths of Palestinians. I hope all your friends find out what kind of evil person you are.

  4. Hahaha- I like how ROM somehow has this "Holy shit, WHAT THE FUCK!?!" look on his face at Hulk jumping into frame.
Yeah- I always hated slow eBay sellers... I WANT IT NOW, DAMN IT!!!
I just filmed some stuff last night for the last two parts of Sweet Flea-Market Finds for the season... should have it up here in the next couple of days- especially since I'm all out of liquor and drugs!

    1. yeah back in the early 80s Sabra was rockin the Jew fro. but for the sake of my fan art i decided to make her hair a bit more contemporary. i really liked the last couple of videos you did so i'm looking forward to seeing what you have coming up next. on top of the dumb ass ebay seller i had some problems getting the issue from the apt. management who the mail delivery douche bag person gave it to instead of at least making one attempt to delivery it to my door. they couldn't fucken find it until this morning even though it arrived on saturday.

    2. Actually, I thought ROM and Sabra were looking at each other behind Hulk's back, as if to say "Who's gonna grab him first?" There were a lot of bad female hairdos in the eighties comics. And the nineties. It's about time Sabra got a trip to the hair salon.

    3. there's definitely different ways someone could interpret this scene but my first thought as i was drawing it was more like Rom and Sabra flying side as the HULK leaps in between them from behind hence the startled posture in their body language.

    4. That's how it reads man. The Hulk just flies in between them like Rah! nice work.

  5. Nice job, Dave! I just finished Age of Ultron and was disappointed that characters in MI13 got a story, but no Sabra or other Bill Mantlo characters like Darkstar. Those ebay items are nice, especially the one on the left. Very true to the character. Keep up the art, man!

    1. Rick, i think you need to adopt my policy of not buying any new stuff from Marvel. i broke with that policy briefly for Infinity and you see where that got me.

  6. Dude you never cease to ROCK this blog. I loved it. I have that Marvel Team Up annual and of course never noticed it! Love the fan art and of course your pic. Question...did the annual arrive in the condition that the seller said it would. I have had so much trouble on ebay with getting comics in the condition as advertised. :)

    4. You keep calling them cards- you mean comics, right? They are blank-sketch-variants. You can see the staples... and that they are #1's... I mean, unless I'M wrong. -But that's never happened before.

  8. Whatever; the ugly reality of eBay Inc.:
    eBay's crooked auctions marketplace ... bit(dot)ly/11F2eas
    The clunky "PreyPal" ... bit(dot)ly/UVXx53
The ongoing joke of it all ... bit(dot)ly/YvxFEg

    1. sorry to hear you've had such a bad experience with ebay and Paypal Phillip. over the last couple of years i've made about half a dozen purchases and this is the first time i've had any sense of disappointment with the service. but right now i'm just happy that the book finally showed up and that it was in the described condition. but if it makes you feel better i gave the seller a low rating on the delivery time part of the feed back feature on ebay.

    2. I used to buy and sell on eBay all the time. I made a LOT of money off that site back in the day, and got a lot of nice deals too. Now it's all 'you MUST use Priority Shipping' which sucks when you only get a comic or loose pvc figure. Almost everything is Buy It Now- the cheap auctions are almost non-existent. And it's all PayPal only for the most part- and I have no interest in getting one of those.
The reason I quit using it, though- was several years ago I got a modded PS1 (it was THAT long ago!) with, like 50 games and imports for only $150. It shows up and all the games are burnt CDr copies. That was not specified in the auction- or even hinted at- it even had pictures of real games in the listing...
I emailed- told him I wanted my money back or I'd report him to eBay because you are technically prohibited from selling copies on there.
He says he wants the stuff back first- I sent it insured with delivery confirmation. Weeks pass- nothing. I email- he says he never got it. I say it is CONFIRMED that he did. He says he sent a check. I say I never got it- send another. He says it is/was sent. No check ever came... I reported him to eBay. Fraudulent auction, no refund on return, illegal copied games. And: They did NOTHING.
I emailed them several times. Nothing.
You used to be able to get a sellers phone number on there to resolve issues with them- I got it- called- not a real number. I reported that as a breach of their terms- they still did nothing. I got screwed for a hundred and fifty bucks and had nothing to show for it, and that's A LOT of money for me- I was so pissed off that they (eBay) didn't even seem to care at all- that I never sold or bought on there again.
