New found Rom cameo! Plus, Dire Wraiths vs The Brood. The deadliest species!

I found this panel by chance on a ComicVine clip art collection having to do with Dire Wraiths. I suspect this is from the Marvel Universe X issue that has an appearance of a version of ROM (human) who was stranded in Limbo and still fighting Dire Wraiths with his neutralizer. For a quick recap: http://siskoid.blogspot.com/2009/10/rom-universe-x.html One thing I'm sure about is that this clip art is from something Marvel published after the licensing rights expired. They don't use the ROM name here and notice how the details on "Rom" are obscured by the neutralizer's rays to the point where technically that could be any other spaceknight? But that's still a cool panel cause we all know who that is with or with out a copyright. Those are Dire Wraiths but it looks like Rom could be blasting John Carpenter's The Thing to Limbo with his neutralizer.

Who could forget this awesome panel from the now classic X-Men 187. What Storm was thinking here got me thinking too. Aside from that I love the way Storm's face is drawn here. Her expression of knee jerk fear and revulsion is perfect.

Imagine for a moment the Dire Wraiths having invaded Brood infected space instead of the Golden Galaxy. Or perhaps imagine The Brood attempting to invade and infect the Dark Nebula. The Brood and the Dire Wraiths are arguably the most vicious and vile aliens in the Marvel Universe. But which is the most deadliest of the two species!?
Both bring plenty to the battle field when it comes to advanced weapons technology and deadly genetic adaptations. But I'm thinking Wraith sorcery might end up giving the Dire Wraiths the edge in an all out interstellar conflict between these two alien menaces. What do you think?

  1. Now I'm wondering what would happen if the Brood managed to impregnate one of the Dire Wraiths. Would that even be possible? What would that end up looking like?
I think I need to go scrub out the inside of my brain.
I'm not sure which would end up winning, Dave. I'm pretty sure I'd buy the comic, over and above any Alien vs. Predator, because in my childhood these two groups of aliens gave me the biggest heebie jeebies hands down.

  2. This was big for me as well, I remember think man a match made in Hell!! To very dark forces that stand out! The Brood where no joke, the first time I saw them was when Kitty had to deal with them and this was fresh after seeing Alien!!

Then this cover http://1979semifinalist.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/070-marc-silvestri.jpg freaked me out as well! So when this whole Dire Wraith and Brood square off happened it was Like Wow!!

  3. Hmmm, I really don't know. Imagine a Hybrid of these two races. The key would be whether or not the Brood are susceptible to wraith sorcery. If not, then I think they would pretty much annihilate each other. If they are, then I think the Wraiths would take them over.

Now could the Wraiths take the Phalanx/Technarchy? That could be a real knock down drag out, especially if there are still any male Sci-Wraiths in existence. That was another point in the Annihilators mini, they only showed the females in Limbo. Did they kill all their brothers everywhere INCLUDING in Limbo?

  4. zhaanman, i used to have that X-Men issue along with the two before it. that was a really good 3 issue story arc. the concept of the Brood infecting mutants so that the new born Brood would have their powers was a great one. it gave the X-Men double the trouble as it were.

Graphics Wiz, i'm pretty sure Wraith sorcery would would have an impact on the Brood. but i'm curious how the Wraith warships would hold up against those massive whale ships the Brood use the Acanti.
as for the Phalanx it seemed like they were pretty much unstoppable so i suspect both Brood and Wraith would be fucked. and as to the Limbo thing i think it was just another over sight just like how Galador seemed to be populated by nothing but "spaceknights" with the exception of Brandy. but it doesn't matter because outside of the Dire Wraiths i've disregarded everything Marvel has done having to do with ROM, Brandy, Galador, the spaceknights and Hybrid after 2000.

  5. I'll trade you some information. :-) Yes, the obscured ROM cameo is from Universe X #3. Now, where did you get the clip art of the 3 yellow doughboy Wraiths with the guns? I don't immediately recognize its origin. Finally, speaking of Universe X and knowing of your other interests, did ya know that the Micronauts play a part in the series too?? Commander Arcturus Rann especially, but in particular track down Universe X #5 for all of the past-and-alternate-future 'Nauts in action & the fate of Subatomica.

  6. That species war would make for an awesome comic! Add some non-powered heroes trapped in the middle and it definitely would be a hit for sure!

    1. that would probably be the best alien showdown since the Kree/Shiar war in Operation Galactic Storm.
