New Rom commission art & cool 70s Underoos ad

Another big thanks to Rick Hansen for sharing this newly acquired commission piece today which he is the proud owner off. The artist is Cory Hamscher, has done work for Marvel, Image and DDP. Magnify the image it looks even cooler then.

I was browsing at a copy of Micronauts #11 recently when I came across one of those full page ads for all sorts of comic book related merchandise. This one really brings back some memories aside from a couple pairs of Underoos I also used to have that Incredible Hulk utility belt when I was a kid. Micronauts 1-12 was what I like to call that Mantlo/Golden era of the series that gave that amazing combination of great writing and bad ass art work as scene here in this panel with Baron Karza on page 2.

February 11 update: for a better look at those cool super hero utility belts check this out http://marvel1980s.blogspot.com/2012/03/1980-incredible-hulk-utility-belt-by.html

  1. I'll bet those Hulk instant muscles put out quite a few eyes of unsuspecting children. ;)

  2. Ha! I remember wanting the utility belt So bad! I believe I did get Batman's utility belt because I remember the Bat-cufts and walki-talkis!

  3. Never saw these except for the Superman set I had when I was a kid, as I mentioned on FB. I damn sure would've loved to have picked up the Spider-Man and Batman one myself though. And the Batman one had walky-Talkies? I would've been so there.

  5. My brother had the Hulk instant muscles. I remember thinking he was so cool! And we all had underoos, although I had Wonder Woman and R2D2. And I think my sister had C3P0. I don't remember what the boys had, I'd have to go digging through Mom's photo albums to find that out.

    2. Ha! I don't think my brother ever did that type of "enhancement" although he did play high school football for a brief flash of a second. Personally, I'm a little envious of this generations foam Hulk fists. Those things are addictive.
